I have them — I think from Calzedonia— and they’re warm, but because of the thickness they aren’t as form fitting as regular tights, so they aren’t really apt for wear with mini skirts. Otherwise they’re a nice warm layer.

I tried them once but didn't like them showing on my not so skinny legs (like at all!). So I never purchased but if I trully needed to wear them for warmth I would only wear them with midis or midaxis to be hidden underneath.

Thanks for all of your ideas and considerations. Minimizing actual exposure heightens the illusion…that works! I like an improved opportunity to lengthen skirt season, to stay warm and to look fab, while doing it.

abby, the tights look good, and thanks for the link.

Great suggestions from the Fabbers! If you keep your skirts and dresses longer and the shafts of your boots higher, you cover most - if not all! - of the hosiery. And are toasty warm :)

Actually, that’s my own trick with wearing long underwear under big skirts in Winter.

Years ago I used to live in a city in Asia where this type of legwear was popular. Women usually wore them with boots and medium-length skirts, so there wasn’t a huge amount of leg showing, just a bit above and below the knee. The illusion of sheerness wasn’t perfect. The fleece added thickness, and sometimes wrinkles. But since so many people were wearing it, it didn’t come across as weird. Plus the winters there were such that actual sheer hose would have been a life-threatening fashion choice. The pseudo-sheer leggings were the dressier or more feminine alternative to opaque leggings or pants.

I use Firecracker’s tactic to get some wear out of any tights I end up regretting buying. When only a flash of knee shows it doesn’t matter if they give you baggy ankles or look a bit too much like figure skating tights.

I've worn fleece-lined tights, but mine look like tights. So I wear them just like I would opaque tights, with any length dress and booties or boots.

I could imagine wearing the less opaque ones you describe in outfits where less leg shows--like with tall boots and a knee-length dress or skirt. Having less leg showing could help minimize the feeling of adding heft to the look of the leg.

abby, good idea staying warm with fleece lined tights ;)

If you can provide a link to the hosiery you have - it might be easier to make helpful suggestions!

I bought two pair of fleece lined tights / leggings, the kind that say they look like sheer hosiery but feel like fleece in winter. One pair is a lighter “nude for me” color and the other a translucent black color. The attraction is to get more wear from my skirts that I love.

They feel warm as they advertise but styling them seems tricky. The models in the ads wear micro skirts, not practical for me. They are not quite sheer hosiery but they are not opaque tights, either. They make my legs look a little heavier and seem not quite as defined.

I checked this forum but there was only one post about them from someone who wore them on a winter vacation in Europe. Does anyone here have experience with fleece lined “wanna be sheer” hosiery? How do you recommend I style my outfit with them to look its best?
