Lol I have to keep the white top in the medium size because it no longer has tags. I have until the end of the month to decide about the black tops (small or medium).

Lol thank you for your kind words - I actually managed to find both my tube maxi skirt and pencil skirt in my wardrobe, so I took some photos with those. I tried a looser skirt and it looked too shapeless on me, unfortunately.

I'm going to post those photos on a new thread, because this has become a bit of a mess with all the cropped dressing room shots that only show the tops but not any outfits. Get ready for an outfit post with the tops!

I like them very much. I think the tops flatter your shape. I would ask did you keep them? Will you be adverse to wearing a skirt similar to your lounge skirt? Get some harem pants quickly.

Keep keep

Some not so great photos of the medium white top worn to work with a long necklace - I'll try to take some better ones, but I think Jenni NZ jinxed it with talk of boots - we just had a typhoon hit, so I had to dress for rainstorms, haha! I was originally planning to wear this look with nude coloured sandals (the pants are a warm stone kind of colour) or navy/ teal sandals (to bring out the turquoise in my necklace - the last photo is a closeup of the beads on it). What do you think?

Anyway back to the top, lol sorry - someone asked about happiness factor? Well, when I tried on the white top, it felt great in the dressing room & made me smile, so I took it home. I regret taking off the tags now though, because now I feel it looks strange with my actual clothes. I'm hoping to salvage the black top (which still has tags attached). I also tried a striped version of the top, which I'll upload fitting room photos of.

Thinking of wearing the white top to work with a long necklace (which I'll tak photos of), but I keep putting it off because I don't feel it looks good - sorry lol!

Hey don't worry, I'm not offended lol - just amused that people thought I was wearing the harem pants as an outfit. Here are some photos with the traditional top as well, so you can get an idea of what I usually wear (plus what my figure somewhat looks like under all that fabric, lol).

As you can see, I unfortunately have a lot of stomach, hips, butt & chest, so I was hoping to camouflage some of that with the top but I worry that it just makes me look even bigger than I already am, lol.

I think this style of top would be difficult for 95 percent of the woman walking the planet. I see the allure of comfort plus trendiness. I tried one on at Banana Republic and actually laughed out loud in the dressing room (for me it was the volume at the waistline; it looked ridiculous).

So... trying to work it out... are you in Hong Kong now? I looked up your past posts and saw you were usually living in UK. Sorry to mistake the bottom half for harem pants and also trousers for jeans. So, sandals ? Slightly boho might be good if you keep the flowy top? And straighter cropped pants for the heat?

Haha it always gives me a good chuckle when people call them 'harem pants' - those green bottoms are actually part of my traditional dress that I was wearing as pyjamas, not an intentional outfit. Sorry if they came across that way, lol!

One big issue is that I've recently moved to this country - I don't have a tailor due to the language barrier & also not being built as skinny as most of the locals. I'm ALWAYS between sizes out here (especially when stores like Zara do special 'Asian' sizing as well). I'm getting a little desperate for warm weather tops that still look OK in the office & outside generally (people are very conservative about necklines but don't seem to care about legs - which is a little weird for me to adjust to, since I don't like having my gams on show).

I've accepted that it's generally going to be difficult for me to dress myself trendily out here, especially since the style seems to skew more young & urban (which the locals can pull off well, but just looks dumpy on me - my trainers photo was actually because I was on my way to the gym after work, not something I would wear stylishly lol). I'm usually worried about looking frumpy in comparison to the urban chic look out here - I'm only 25 but I usually end up dressing more like the older ladies in the office because of my body type, haha!

I also apologise for the poor quality photos - the slim pants in my photos are actually black & white pinstripe trousers, not jeans. Jeans & boots are too stiff & hot for this weather (plus I don't generally look good in ankle boots and jeans anyway).

I often add a long necklace with the 'long over lean' look, but would that look strange with this top? I'm worried the diagonal seam at the top of the drape (in the middle of the top) would interfere with a necklace - what do you think? If not, would a scarf work, too?

I think neither size fits perfectly and that therefore you could do better. Also in the pics with the harem pants there is just too much fabric everywhere which overwhelms. The top looks better with the jeans but I think maybe boots would look better than the sneakers you have on. Just my thoughts and feel free to ignore!

It's not frumpy, but it does look like you may be between sizes. I have this issue a lot with tops like this that have volume through the body -- I try to size down so they're not so much fabric, but then they get a little skimpy through the bust or arms. I would prefer this kind of top with straight or slim bottoms, not voluminous ones, but that's my personal preference.

I also find that for these kinds of swing or tent-like tops, they work best for me if there is some kind of neckline or shoulder emphasis to balance all that fabric (I have big hips so I'm always looking to balance my upper half). V-necks are good.

I like the way you styled the white top with the jeans. I prefer the small top with the harem pants, because they have so much volume, but generally prefer the medium for the length. For me, the volume on volume is ok (kinda funky cool), but I think the right shoe is needed.

Not frumpy. Agree with slimmer bottoms. Also agree that you need to make sure you aren't betweeen sizes. If so, you may never be comfortable in the top. For myself, I would add a longer necklace because I like the additional vertical line it gives the outfit.

I have some skirts but I'm not huge on showing my legs - it's so hot out here that I can't bear the thought of tights right about now, so unfortunately that limits my options. Although I may have a tube maxi skirt somewhere...

I think the odd sizing is part of the reason why I'm unsure about the top - I agree that the small size probably fits better in the neck & arms (I feel like the looser sleeves look better on the model than on me - too much volume all around otherwise - but what do you think?) I'm just not sure about the drape with the small sized top though - the hem & back look like they fall strangely in the small size, or is that just me?

I like it paired with a slim bottom.

Do you also have a tube skirt? Try it with that.

I like the style and don't think it looks at all frumpy. Agreeing with lozz_oz that it looks better styled with slim trousers. The medium size gives you a looser fit on the sleeves - more like the ones on the model - but the neckline is better on the smaller size. Sorry if that's confused the issue!
The main thing is whether you feel happy in it, though.
