Hey, njw! I suggest you try NYDJs in both missy and women's sizes: the Millie mini bootcut and Barbara bootcut are wardrobe staples for me; the Farah flare is fairly restrained. If you try Torrid stretch jeans, size down: generally their waists run large. And don't overlook Gap: their straight leg offers a fair amount of length and shoe coverage and their flares might work, too (sizing varies radically item to item, so you might want to try multiple sizes to get just the look you want). Trouser jeans (Nordstrom's Taylor fit as well as NYDJ) will give the most shoe coverage, but, as Emily and April note, also require careful attention to length; they also have a more polished vibe. Finding the right denim is quite a quest, isn't it? Good luck!

I've liked Torrid's jeans a lot lately. I'm a size 18. I primarily wear flats or very low heeled boots.

Perhaps you would like these?

Yes, I second the idea of a trouser jean. Or maybe a "baby bootcut." (A very modest version of the regular bootcut.) Check out "NYDJ" brand, which are a relaxed fit in general -- they advise going down one size to get the right fit.

Keep in mind two things, though. One, the wider the hem of the jean, the more you will have to commit to a heel height on the shoe you'll be wearing. If you change your heel much, the jean will either drag on the ground or look a bit too short. Two, if you're in a rainy climate and you prefer "perfect pants length" (the hems just about brushing the ground), you'll find yourself with damp or soggy hems on wet days. The beauty of skinnies is the way they tuck into boots or booties when the weather is rainy, so maybe keep one pair for those rainy days.

You'll want to search for "trouser jeans". They are straight-legged or slightly wide with a straight leg. No flare. Usually, they are dark wash in a refined denim. You'll wear them long--to within a smidge from the floor. They are sleekly styled through the hips and waist and very flattering for size 16.

I have a lot of foot issues so my shoes are not something I want to emphasize..I feel like most ankle pants do that as well as not always flattering for my size. So...in need of dark wash jeans that are not big flares and also not ankle length...is there a jean style that would flatter a size 16 that would be full length and be straight but not skinny style? I think that is what would be best for my body type but completely open to all ideas/suggestions. Thanks in advance.
