But my winter flats are usually not ones that show a lot of skin on the top of my foot, so I will also usually wear sheer knee-highs with them. I finally got them out and love them. I agree with Nicole about the feet looking smaller with bootcuts. I was specifically looking for flat (for PPL purpose) ankle (because I have the same calf fit problem) boots, and I didn't find that many options. Most seem to have a bit of a heel, enough to ruin PPL and to impact the comfort.<br /> I would go for the JC boots. I was also unsure about the patent originally, but now I like it a lot. I think that's even why the call them bootcuts - they are cut wide enough to put boots *under* rather than over. This gives you an extra layer of warmth on your entire lower leg, not just up to your ankles. Yeah, I know... you aren't showing off the whole boot... but it's practical and warm and it extends the wear you can get out of your knee-high boots.
