I suspect that your eye simply isn't used to the look. Your feet are not large by any standard, and neither are mine, but I know that when I started wearing skinny jeans with flat shoes (especially Cons!), I went through a similar adjustment period.

Size 6 is quite small and highly unlikely to be "clownlike" under any circumstances, so I'm guessing it's just that you're not used to the look. Do you usually wear heels?

I think that when you look straight down at your feet they always seem bigger, and any high vamped shoe or boot will look a little odd at first. Try looking at your feet in a mirror. That's the view that people actually have, and it's quite different and much more flattering than your own bird's eye view. Also, laces or seaming will break up the line and you may prefer that.

I always have this problem! My feet are Euro size 40, and I am 5'4", and I cannot wear flat boots, without detailing along the vamp, or I look like I have clown feet!

A low heeled boot is much better, and they're comfy if the heel is chunky rather than narrow. I also find that detailing and a rounded toe help (like these Aldo boots, below).

It's hard to find flat boots that flatter a (relatively) longer foot, but they do exist....good luck :).

I am on the hunt for a black ankle bootie that I can combine with tights for MOTG-appropriate fall dress combinations. I prefer a close-to-the ankle fit and either a flat or very stable stacked/block heel.

So far I have tried a few flat styles.

I've tried the Blondo Venice (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VL86F0) and a Hush Puppies version (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TDW0VQ). In my normal size (6), I'm finding that the foot looks really really long in both and kind of clownish and weird when combined with a dress (like I'm wearing my husband's shoes).

I can't tell if it's because of the flatness of the heel combined with my shortness (I'm 5'1), or that my eye is trained to the relatively smaller footprint of a heeled boot. I'll post pics when I get a chance but was wondering whether anyone else has encountered this and found a solution?
