Suz, no, the sweater is one that I re-made from a 90s oversized sweater I used to wear with leggings! (Egad!) I tried to felt it before cutting it and remaking it, but it just shrank without really felting. Still I like the new version. The EF sweater is just too different a color--in the same family, yes, but adding another shade just didn't look right to me.

I really like it in 1/2 and 3/4, actually. But I agree, the colour blocking definitely makes it trickier to style. Which might not matter if you love at least one or two combinations for it. Too bad the blouse wouldn't work with it. Is #1 the sweater you got at the same time?

Thanks, everyone. Greyscale, I tried turning the skirt, but the way it's shaped, it doesn't work too well--it poofs out in front and back, where it's angled to curve over the side of the hip, I guess. Definitely looked worse that way:(

I am very curious to see how the skirt would look rotated 90degrees so the yoke points are on the sides. I can't tell if the design is a simple partial-circle or if it has shaping that would make that impossible. I love the fabric but I can see the concern about the colorblocking - it seems like the dark part could work even better if it were either bigger or smaller. But it's great with the red sweater in #1 and 2 - I think that makes the whole colorblock effect work very well.

I agree with caro. I love the belted tuck of 3/4 and the untucked burgundy and black tops. That skirt is so fab on you!

I like 1 through to 7 & also 12. I think the plainer, tonal looks allow the skirt to shine. # 1/2 & # 3/4 are my favourites

After your feedback on this post
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ared-skirt
I tried out the skirt again with some other tops.
The skirt is wool with an elastic waist, a v-shaped yoke in charcoal, and flared panels in merlot. Still haven't worn it out of the house and I'm still feeling less than thrilled with it. And I'm still okay if it remains a test garment. I may need to make this pattern in a smaller size and without color-blocking.

But anyway, here are the attempts:
1-2: with a boxy wool sweater (I refashioned it from an oversized pullover I wore with leggings in the early 90s!), black fishnet tights and black booties (Munro Grace).
3-4: with boxy charcoal sweater (Eileen Fisher), faux semi-tucked with belt
5: with same boxy charcoal sweater and no belt
6-7: with v-neck ribbed black sweater and black belt
8: with same v-heck ribbed black sweater and big grayish-brown belt
9: with cream and black zebra layering top, charcoal blazer style sweater-jacket (Halogen), and black belt
10: with same top & jacket and no belt
11: the jacket look from the back
12: with v-neck tee, fancy black belt, and charcoal sweater jacket
13-14: with v-neck tee and plaid asymmetrical vest

I did also try the skirt with my Eileen Fisher cranberry silk blouse, but I thought the colors didn't work well enough together.

Do any of these work, to your eye? Other ideas?
Thanks for looking!
