Great Celia! Thanks for input! I'll take a closer look at Mango. I think I'll have to give Zara another try too, because they're Spanish as well (and the store is in town :-)). I prefer natural fibres, so one drawback at Zara's is that many shirts and blouses are made of polyester. I'll have another try anyway

Have you tried Mango?
Because it is a brand from Spain their regular sizes are very close to what in the USA are petites and, at least some time ago, their cut used not to taper too much in the waist. And they ship to Norway.

http://shop.mango.com/NO/p0/ma.....6672671225

I tried a lot, but can't remember all the brands, but it has been both expensive and inexpensive. The looser fit seems to work better, but many are made oversized and then they look like tents on me, even the smallest sizes.

Ramya, I havn't been to Lindex yet because it is closed due to reorganization of the shop.

Celia: Nordstrom does not ship to Norway. I might consider J.Crew's petite sizes, but then import taxes are really high, so I can't order, try and return. I need to get it right the first time.

Well - I guess I just have to continue by trial and error. I'm happy to read that some have had great stamina and finally found what they look for with the right fit. That is truly inspiring

Yes, I also have a hard time with "fitted" shirts. Every brand is different. I know that I do better with semi-fitted or my mom has to alter them in some manner. I only have a couple for that exact reason.

I can't tell you whether it is or is not possible to fit your body type--there may a brand out there for you. But I feel your pain.

I can say that I've mostly given up on crisp collared shirts at least for work-wear, because I never think they look neat and right on me, either. I can't really explain it since I can find my size, they can fit slimly and generally right, but I'm so long-waisted that if I tuck there's just too much space open for fabric bunching and pulling and it just doesn't work. If I try to layer, my sweaters bunch up over a crisp fabric if they fit me well, or if I go for a looser look I look like I'm in a sweatshirt.

Plus for some reason, in my current decade, shirt collars don't look as good. So I still want to have some "blouses" and not all knits, but I have crossed cotton/cotton-poly "shirts" off my list for now and look for more drapey fabrics.

You could try looking at tailored "knit" shirts and go for a good fit in the shoulders but have some give elsewhere, or look at silk or silk-like fabrics that may have some shoulder-shirring or something.

Yes, I guess so. I think I was blended by the fit of the shirt I posted a while ago. I went back and it was not as great as I'd though. The fit was ok, though. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....y-or-leave

I’ve looking for a casual somewhat fitted shirt for a while, but the outcome is depressing.
- All shirts are always too long in the back and
- waist is too narrow,
or
- if it fits around tummy the shoulders are way too large

I think petite sizes would be better, but they are not available in Scandinavia and shopping online is expensive due to import taxes. *sigh*

Suggestions?
