I like the suggestions on here. I don't have any, just echoing your sentiment. I too often want that attitude in my look but as an hourglass that is 5'5 and does not have legs that go for miles it is hard to get the look I want! So I understand. I think you are on the right track though.

Looks fine to me, i'd perhaps try different shoes/ boots (are they slouch ankle boots?) as it looks like you've got a horizontal line about the ankle which i think can shorten the leg.
I second garmentas suggestion of a scarf to give you a long vertical line x

I like your take on the skinny jeans/boyfriend jacket! The white tee is a good contrast. One thing comes to mind, seeing it--a long scarf, looped or tied so that it cascades down the front of the tee, would give you a vertical line. Darned if I can find a picture, though. I hope you know what I mean.

Thank you all for your help. I've posted my attempt at the style here: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh.....directlink, and, for comparison, a look in wide-leg jeans here: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh.....directlink. Overall, I'm pretty sure a wider-leg jean is the more slimming look for me, but I really like the attitude that goes with the slouchy t-shirt, skinny jeans, and boyfriend jacket combo.

The lasses are spot on. Posting a picture will really help us make accurate suggestions and getting the proportion of length right is the most important thing.

If you're short, with an hourglass shape, it may be all about proportion. You may be able to mimic this look with a long tee that hits in the right spot--probably just below the hip--and a shorter, more fitter jacket. A military-inspired jacket may work for you, as long as it hits at mid-hip and has some waist definition.

The boyfriend jacket may work, too--but it needs to be proportional, not too long, and you may want to increase the waist definition with some kind of belting. Experiment and see what looks good on.

Hope that helps.

I love the casual/rock star look of a slouchy long t-shirt or sweater under a boyfriend jacket and over fitted jeans. One problem - the look doesn't work for my figure. I'm under 5', somewhere between an hourglass and a triangle (pear), roughly 15 pound above my "ideal" weight, with my small waist as my best feature. The look I love would totally leave me shapeless and highlight my heavier legs. How can I translate this relaxed/rock-star edge look into something that will flatter my figure?
