Good and bad news here. I did very well on the exercise front, keeping to my plan of 3 cardio sessions (runs) (which this time included a 12.6km run with only a little walking, 2 strength sessions and one body balance class.

Eating went well at first; I lost the weight gained last weekend and even went .3kg under my goal. However I have had guests for 4 days running, functions and fish and chips. So I put on 1kg. Now only 4 days to undo the damage in time for my big event this saturday

Doing well on exercise / not so great on eating seems to be the theme of this thread!

Wow, ladies, you are inspirational! I'd love to join in for the support. I've been pretty good with the exercise portion. My bigger issue is the food side. Especially certain times of the month like right now when I CRAVE salt and carbs. I love the suggestions on ab workouts. I've done planks, but not very consistently. You've given me motivation to do a better job.

Go team! lol
I do a sort of yoga boat pose/ v-up/ oblique twist combo on the edge of the bed most the time for abs. Make it up as I go really ha ha.
Got in a couple shorter runs but had too much to eat and drink this weekend. Went to Busch Gardens today where I experienced my first (and last) funnel cake. Glad I'm not a fan - I'm sure the calories are outrageous. At least a day at the theme park clocks in at 14,000 steps.
Would like to get the eating back on track this week - I seem to have the moderate exercise part down pretty well.

Una, in response to your question. For abs, every day I do:

1) planks: 1 minute center, 1 minute on left side, 1 minute on right side (fourth exercise on the video "five minute fitness for teens" -http://www.youtube.com/user/DefiningYouFitness)

2) 10 "roll-ups"
(first exercise on the video "five minute fitness for teens" - http://www.youtube.com/user/DefiningYouFitness)

3) a set of the pilates "100" (just google pilates 100 and you'll find lots of videos)

4) a set of the pilates "abdominal series" (10 reps on each side of each exercise)

- single-leg stretch
- double-leg stretch
- scissors
- leg lower and lift
- criss-cross

I've let my eating slide over the past week which showed on the scale this morning, but I'll get back on track.
I finally gave in and surrendered to the fact that I need to adapt my workout while in ankle-recovery mode. I was talking to my bootcamp instructor at the gym this morning and he encouraged me to take up cycling for a while and avoid bootcamp...boo ;-( but I know he's right. So, I joined in the spinning fun this morning. So,now I'll get back into my 3 days at the gym, plus Saturday bike ride with the hubster.

I've got to get back on track with my running. After a couple of weeks away from it, last week I was getting over a rotten cold and cough, so I ran a couple of days but walked part of it both times. Food-wise I'm doing okay -- indulging a little but in moderation! For the days I felt awful with my cold, I didn't feel much like eating anything, so I'm just glad to have an appetite back.

Sicky McSickeypoo (aka Rae) has not worked out due to conserving energy to fight germs. However, I've been pretty good with my food - no binging, sensible portions, lots of soup, tracking all calories. I need to get a new bathroom scale.

For sit-ups, I LOVE V-ups. My entire core and inner thighs hurt after 50. They are especially good for the stubborn lower abs. You lay on your back with arms extended overhead, then raise your upper and lower halves until your arms touch your toes directly over your hips.

Some examples, although IMO it works better if you take the upper and lower body all the way to center:

The last exercise I got was last Monday lifting weights. Sadly I dropped a 25 lb plate on the foot just behind the toes and it is still black and very tender. I suspect the second and/or third bone is broken but since the treatment is wrapping and icing, that is what I am doing. I may go down to the hotel gym this evening and do a few sets of weights and see if I can manage the elliptical since it is flat footed.

ETA: After I posted, I sat around for a few minutes and then decided to go to the gym. I lifted and then did 20 minutes on an exercise bike. HR was 70-80% which is good enough.

Alaskagirl, thanks for posting the thread. You got me off my butt and to the gym.

My I join in?

I was supposed to run on Friday and Saturday but ended up shopping on both days 4 hours straight. I think that counts as exercise.

Sunday I had the 10 mile tweed bike ride in DC which was easy riding at 5 MPH so never got the heart rate going, but still counts as exercise.

Monday, biked to work, took a 45 min weight class, and a 15 minute ab class and will bike back home.

My plans for the rest of the week are:
Tuesday - bike to work/home, run 5 miles.
Wednesday - same as Monday
Thursday - break
Friday - Run 5 miles

I didn't post in last week's thread because I was a slacker two weeks ago. The gym I go to is under renovation.

Last week I managed to workout twice: a U-jam class at the sister gym and a 4 mile run plus light weights.

This week I hope to at least get three workouts in because Thanksgiving is really going to mess with next week.

No good news from me. I have been perfect at my diet, but I didn't do any excersize last week, due to bad planning and stomach aches. This morning I woke up with a sore muscle in my shoulder. I did do the house chores, but no gym today. Tomorrow I will go, even if it is just for 15 minutes on the crosstrainer. After that I will see what else I can and cannot do.

I went to the gym 5 days last week -- missed Saturday because I was out of town on a work weekend, but did a fair amount of walking in Santa Barbara.

But I am super frustrated because I haven't been able to get the few pounds I picked up on the cruise to stay off. Argh. Too many weekends away with too much eating and drinking!!

You've inspired me to get up and get to the fitness center to work it and Brenda, I'm impressed with your 10K minutes goal! Impressive. Alicat, I too, have a few Firm DVDs and really like them. Lately, I've been biking, doing a run-walk on the treadmill, and doing abs and floor work from the Callanetics DVD. While it sounds good, I haven't been very regular, so Una, thanks for this fitness check-in.

Planks! They are a great core exercise.

Exercise is going fine, other than I'm sick at the moment so today is a rest day. I'm over 9700 cardio minutes for the year, so I shouldn't have a problem meeting my goal of 10,000 minutes. I might even hit 11,000 min. We'll see.

I got sidelined for much of the week with a cold, but I did manage a 40-minute power ball workout Saturday (The Firm: Slim and Trim) and a 30-minute cardio workout yesterday (The Firm: Cardio Inferno). Also some neighborhood Husky walks.

Hey ladies, are we still on the bandwagon?

I'd dropped two pounds but no change this morning. I've been pretty good about eating and have managed to avoid most of the sugar I'd normally eat. I did break for Thai food one day, which is another weakness. Rode the exercise bike 3 times.

I'm hoping to sign up for a core class with a friend in December to tighten up in the gut area (my worst!), but for now, I have a question for those who do sit-ups (Mo!) - what do you do at home? I've read about so many kinds of crunches - what have you found most effective?

Shout it out!
