@Liesbeth & @Renee Sorry for not clarifying better - I bought the two new shoe styles ETA in the original post:
~ The FitFlop Lena feather/ leaf loafers
~ The Hush Puppies light gold sandals (don't know model, seems discontinued)

Whew, fingers crossed that's enough shoe shopping to last me a couple of years (at least!) Still gotta wear out the current versions these shoes are designed to replace

It seems there's enough snakeskin in the pattern but also a close enough 'nude' colour for it to look intentional in both scenarios.

@Helena 'Sleek' is what comes to my mind with a patent finish too! The sole shape is giving me pause though - will take it along too today, to compare with the leaf loafer in-person.

Wish me luck - hopefully the SA doesn't sway me into any totally new pairs

You've got great options here! I really love the first pair of sandals, and to me they would be the most versatile, because they are neutral enough to work with colours and light enough to work with all neutrals. That said, you can never go wrong with black in my book! I do prefer the slip on black shoes to the lace ups .... I think the first patent lair are the sleekest to my eye. Comfort first though always!! Especially with our lovely feet!

Because the snakeskin reads mostly as texture I don't think it would clash with print but it could be more effect than you are comfortable with.

The all nude sandals seem truly neutral, and different mood than the black, while the snakeskin and black sandals might overlap more in function.

No 'super blood moon' sighting here - was too cloudy Ok, onto the replies:

@rachylou : More 'grounded' is a good way to put it - I think that's why I'm more sold on the black sandals, since it's a 'heavy' colour anyway.

As for the loafers, I have no who Annie Lennox is lol but my plan was indeed to wear them with pantsuits (my usual interview go-to outfit). Think they'd *really* look too 'schoolgirl' with skirts, lol. See paragraph below for what I'm considering replacing them with.

@FashIntern, @cat2, @sal, @Suz, @Liesbeth & @Angie : I tried the Lena penny loafers (the ones I linked above in response to @cat2) but they were too tight across the toebox. I then tried the feather/ leaf version of those same loafers (linked in the OP, original post) & those fit much better - what do you think about exchanging my current (Audrey) patent loafers for those instead? Would they still be dressy enough for interviews without looking too dowdy/ 'schoolgirl, & does the difference in the soles styles of the Audrey & Lena help with that any?

@phoebe : Do you think the snakeskin texture would clash if I wear other prints in my outfits? I tend to wear florals & softer patterns, but usually no more than one at a time in an outfit. Pattern mixing is therefore totally new territory to me.

@suntiger & @joy : Yes, my plan is to wear the black sandals with all (or mostly) black outfits. I've been building that capsule for a while, so shoes are the last missing piece of that puzzle. I'm a little nervous to debut it, to be honest!

I can see why FitFlop could be uncomfortable - I couldn't get my feet into their more 'dainty' sandal styles (with tighter, non-adjustable bands). That's why I had to try these in-person, to be sure the vamp would be wide & high enough for me. My feet do swell sometimes, but that's why I tried them on in the evening, after having been on my feet.

@Suz : I suspect FitFlop have made their sizes even *smaller* now, since I'm normally a UK 5.5 D (my previous FitFlop shoes have consistently been a UK5/ EU38), but I had to size up to a 6/39 for this current haul. You can see that the length fits perfectly, so sizing down would be too small.

@DonnaF : Haha surprisingly enough, the version I have of these leaf slides are rose gold, not yellow gold (I had to double check the box, because they're quite subtle - even my photos don't look very pink). I'm annoyed that they're the *only* colour available here in HK though - I'm sorely tempted to order the black pair to my UK address! Debating whether I should also buy the actually yellow gold pair (the 'platino' colour) or not risk it, since COVID makes it difficult to know when exactly I'll be able to head back home again to pick them up... https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/.....-p-DT1#675

I also hear you on the 'white soles' thing - ideally I prefer warmer tones, but I was willing to compromise with these because the snakeskin print on the black ones is actually cream (rare to find black paired with an 'impure' white on shoes)! I thought it would bother me more but, I have another pair of FitFlops (gold flatforms, if you've seen my past outfits) with white soles that I still wear a lot anyway. PS - What do you think of the other Hush Puppies sandals that I've added to the original post (#12)? Is the white sole more tolerable there? I wonder if it's possible to dye just the rubber soles of shoes? Hmm...

@Jenni NZ & @Suz : See the paragraph directly above - do you think those new Hush Puppies sandals look less orthopaedic than #10? Lol I currently have 12-16 pairs of shoes in total (including trainers, house slippers etc) - I'd have to buy another shoe rack if I wanted more! Truth be told, I wasn't planning to buy so many shoes all at once, but the B&M deals were better than expected & I've been just 'getting by' these pending wardrobe holes for a while now (still wearing the teal sandals & black derby shoes for 5+ years now, even though the soles are starting to feel less comfortable with every summer that passes, lol).

@Angie : So I tried the two alternate styles quickly at another stockist & they both fit well - the black leaf loafers were wide enough in the toebox but snug enough on the heel to not slip as I walk (& were relatively comfy, albeit not as heavily padded as my more casual FitFlop shoes), & the Hush Puppies light gold sandals were surprisingly lightweight. I shall head to the department store tomorrow to see if it's possible to exchange the patent loafers for the leaf ones. I might need to sleep on the Hush Puppies though - still considering whether they give off modern enough of a vibe to outright replace the chunky nude FitFlop sandals. Wish me luck!

If you already bought them I wouldn'tworry about exchanging. Though I'm not for chunky sandzls myself I really like the first two pairs on you and do think they're different enough. The slides seem like a (pretty!) essential in summer heat for house visits. The loafers are a tad too chunky for my tastes but still on the right side of the classic/dowdy line imo ;). Again, if they're comfortable and bought for a specific purpose I'd keep.

Definitely keep the slides! I'm jealous you can keep them on. These are winners, and if the comfort factor is there, you might want another pair (if they come in another colour you like).

I like the chunky sandals a lot! I know with Fitflop, they seldom do sandals in half sizes. I have to size up from the size I wear in their shoes so I get a bit of extra (for me it tends to be at the back). But it doesn't mean the fit is wrong, if you have the adjustability.

I like the black ones better than the others, but that might just be personal preference. And I love the white soles!

I am not crazy about the loafers. I'm not sure I can articulate why.

As for the others -- hard to say without seeing them on but I can see the sandal working, especially since you say it is replacing a similar pair that went the distance for you.

I like them all and think given your climate and how much faster sandals seem to wear out when compared to other shoes, there is no issue with duplicating the first sandal in the two colour ways. As for the loafer, that looks like it will work well year round. I had a pair of Ecco loafers like this (patent too) and found them very useful as they were great to walk in. They were the shoe that I wore to and from work and left the pretty heels at the office.

I think 1-4 look pretty good for you. I like the gold slides and the black patent loafers a lot.

You MUST keep those gold slides!!! Not as sure about the rest.

I would trash the white soles of the first two pairs in an instant. I'm not like Angie in terms of keeping white soles clean.

Are the black loafers as hot as they look? That would be my primary concern.

I'm a bit of a magpie, see gold as a semi-nude, and think gold looks great with black. Thus, I would buy two pairs of the gold sandals! (Bet you hadn't anticipated that feedback.)

As for #10: Hush Puppies IS a comfort brand, and those sandals look like they would ultimately be more comfortable than #1 for a long day of walking, especially since my particular feet don't like the squishiness of the soles in the first two pairs of sandals. #10 doesn't look bad per se, but I don't think one would buy them primarily for looks IYKWIM.

I kind of agree with Cat2 and your husband about the loafers. I think the sole and shape make them look casual but the patent makes them dressy. I think they are fine but black loafers are a common style so I would be picky and patient!!

I would definitely keep 1/2 as a summer sandal. Black seems heavy for summer except when wearing lots of black. FitFlops have never fit me comfortably because the top of my foot gets pressure and it’s painful. But I have never tried sandals. I would prefer the patent loafers to regular leather, but I like different textures, especially in black. Do you feet swell at all in the heat? Something to consider.

I like everything

The blush sandals blend well with your skin tone and the snakeskin reads mostly as a texture so not likely to distract when worn with color.

The black pair is similar but different enough and I agree with Rachylou's "grounding" description of the soles.

The gold pair looks great, nice balance of casual/pretty, I see leaves too, which is nice.

The black pair look like reliable, appropriate work shoes that fit well and if you don't wear them otherwise I would still think that was enough.

I love the chunky sole sandals! They’re ‘grounding.’ Admittedly not so keen on the loafers ... I feel they won’t look that polished unless you’re wearing a suit... a pants suit... Annie Lennox style...

@cat2 Interesting - how could a loafer look dressier? I didn't go for the plain (matte) leather version originally for this same reason. They also had one with black rhinestones all over the vamp, but that's probably not what you meant How about these penny loafers instead?
https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/.....-p-DI4#090

PS - To @cat2 (& anyone else that's interested), feel free to take a look at the Fitflop website & let me know if there are any shoes there that you think I should exchange my current selections for? Unfortunately some choices are region specific (I'd be all over the all-black Heda sandals if I could!) but I appreciate whatever help you can give (only if you want to, of course!)

Thanks, all. Hmm, knew I should have sat on it instead of buying all these pairs then & there (I went B&M shopping for the first time in ages, & forgot how pushy sales assistants can be in HK lol oops). There was a discount for buying them all together, but unfortunately I can't return - only exchange for other pairs. Which is OK, because Fitflop do have other styles that look interesting, & I know they always fit well (only thing I have to be cautious with is my high instep, hence adjustable straps etc).

I think my biggest issues still are:

1) The black dress shoes. Do they feel a little dowdy? It's ok, you can be honest I'm not sure whether getting them in plain (not patent) would make a difference? Or maybe I just need to accept that interview shoes are always going to look more conservative than usual, & that's ok too

2) Should I duplicate the sandals? I agree they look big in the front but I don't know whether that's just because of how I put them on. Don't know if you can see clearly from the photos but actually the 'back strap' (where it forms a V) is adjustable *both* in the back (behind the ankle) *and" in front of it! I've never had sandals like this before, but it does take some getting used to (there's actually padding *inside* where the straps meet, which I never knew I needed until now lol!) Will fiddle around with it some to see if it's just that or something else (I tried a size down but the toebox wasn't wide enough for me).

This 'chunky' sandal look is definitely new to me - not sure if my apprehension is due to that or the fit being off. Maybe I need to start putting together example outfits to test drive them at home first?

I like everything except the loafer, I think a dressier flat would work better for interviews, like a pointed or snip toe skimmer, a D’Orsay, or a dressier loafer.

Another yes to the snake and black ones. I also like the ones in picture 10. I feel that duplication makes sense if you wear them frequently.

I like the black sandals and gold slides best too. Smashing!

I know there is room in front of the sandals. But having lived in HK and knowing how HOT it can be......and you walk outside all the time - you will welcome the room!

I like the black sandals and the gold ones the best. The first two sandals do have extra space around your toes but it feels more harmonious on a black pair ( stronger look, goes with your toe nail beautifully ).
I'm very hard on my sandals too - long warm summer in Bay Area.
I like your new black loafers too - cute look, hope they are soft ( can't do patent leather - not comfortable at all ).

I like the gold most by far! The first two pairs seem big in the front, a lot of sandal in front of your toes.
I don't wear my black sandals as often as my nude (cognac) in summer. Black sandals, unless they're pretty bare, just feel too heavy unless worn with pants or long skirts.
I suspect Fit Flops wouldn't work for me. My heels are very narrow, but my toes are too...

That sassy/twee line is always tricky and as we get older, it moves, the little rat. And of course it’s something to be careful about in an interview outfit, because that might be the only time they see you.

Just saw your other post - the elastic hidden behind the buckle is genius!

True - I'm wondering whether I could just wear the 'nude' pair #1 with my black capsule wardrobe, instead of having dedicated black sandals for it... I think I'm just unsure about the pattern placement on #1 though (ideally I'd be able to get them in 'nude' but just with the subtle snakeprint trim of #3 lol). Maybe my uneasiness is unfounded - I don't usually wear animal print but I know many consider it to be a neutral.

True, I think that's why I may be hesitant with #7. I do have a burgundy pair of Clarks Pure Tone flats that I change into once I get to work (attached), but I'm wondering whether they work better because of the slightly 'cut out' sides (like a faux D'orsay, lol). I'd like a more formal fabrication for interviews than the corduroy on those, though. Now I'm wondering which styles of Mary Janes could look sufficiently 'sassy' on me without veering into 'twee' territory, lol...
