Thanks again everyone for all your helpful responses.

I must admit that I am still waiting for several of my NAS purchases to arrive, plus I made a few purchases outside the sale that eat into my budget. It's hard for me to know how I'm going to spend my budget until I see everything and get a chance to think about how it will work with what I already have.

I have a lot to think about here.

Chris987, the shirt is poplin and has zero stretch, but I do have enough room to move, lift my arms, bend, squat, sit, etc.

Jenni, it's funny that you have mostly seen my summer clothes because it's winter, snowy and cold where I live for 6 months of the year maybe more! I have an embarrassingly large cashmere sweater collection, boot and bootie collection, and maybe scarves too...........

Suz, I understand what you mean about the seams, I need to see if the shirt is going to rub or feel like its chafing if I wear it for an extended period of time. The shirt is well made and the seams are finished nicely. The stripes align straight at the seams (if that makes sense to you.---the vertical stripes are not hitting the seam line at an angle when they shouldn't be).

It's frustrating when subtle fit problems of a garment become evident after the tags are cut and it's too late! I am trying to be careful about my purchases. I want pieces that will add something fresh to my wardrobe.

Thanks KK. My style can be eclectic. I remember one time posting what I thought were two very different looks, but they still felt very much like they fit my aesthetic. Your use of the word "modern" reminded me that I use the word "Fresh" as one of my style adjectives. I think there are times when Fresh, Classic and Soft can clash with one another. I don't need each wardrobe item to have all the characteristics of my style, only one aspect. The most important part is if the item makes me feel happy.

I adore you in that jacket! It's a keeper.
I also like the smaller size in the shirt - I think it is still "you". Sometimes it is good to stretch a little at the edges, but it seems to me to still fit your overall image.
I like every pair of black booties I've ever seen, so I am no help there...

Can't add much to all the great comments except that for a non stretch fabric like that shirt make sure it's not too tight or pulls when you move around. If it's too tight you will be uncomfortable and put stress on the seams. It's tricky to get just the right fit.

Hi Staysfit. I think these are the first pics I've noticed of you in slightly more wintry clothing and am more used to seeing you in beautiful summer dresses! I think the smaller shirt fits better in the pics. I am with Lisap though in not feeling these clothes ( shirt or jacket) fit your style descriptors. I personally find the shirt fussy and the jacket dull on you in comparison with what I've seen you wear before.
I much prefer the Aquatalias and actually find them more feminine than the SWs, in opposition to others. But then I have a poison eye for wedges and own about 2 out of 50. To me the newer boots look more today. Far be it from me though to suggest you get rid of perfectly good boots!

I don't mind the puff sleeve on you at all -- you wear the shirt very well! I just worry that if the seam is too far towards your armpit that it will be uncomfortable. But you will be able to judge that better than anyone looking at it. The colours definitely fit your palette and suit you beautifully!

Lisa, I admit that my bikini and storm cloud metaphors are a stretch........... Both the shirt and jacket are in my color palette. However, they aren't the specific colors I chose for my wardrobe. I limited myself to 6-7 colors to keep things simple, but I stray now and again for variety. The black and white tweed reads as grey which is one of my primary neutrals.

Suz, I may also have slight pear tendencies, or maybe hourglass tendencies. I laugh when I think that I thought I had a pear shape when I first started participating on the forum. How could that even be possible? My jackets have always been a size larger than my trousers! :-)

The puffy sleeves of this shirt do not bother me as much as they seem to bother others. I'm not sure if they seem more prominent in the picture, or if it's an adjustment of the eye? Maybe, I just like this particular silhouette because it reminds me of one of the first sweaters I knit for myself. My father's good friend owned a knitting store and designed sweaters. She designed a puff sleeve pull over sweater with a crew neckline for me. I used a light navy tweed yarn and a popcorn stitch. I loved that sweater. I have always loved puffy shoulders. :-)

Dianna, thanks for your feedback. I like the feminine lines of the SW boots. I have very little black footwear, but I have loved these SW booties. They fit nicely, and I think they create a nice line.

Angie, Thanks for reminding me to do the sit down test with the shirt. I will also try driving my car around the neighborhood. Sometimes raising my arms to the steering wheel isn't enough to judge that an item is going to fit and function well! I move a lot when I'm at work!

If I keep this jacket, I will want a black bootie that is waterproof to extend its wearability. I prefer something more refined and feminine. I may check my local shoe boutique to see if they have their fall shoes out yet. The SW wedges have a limited range of only a couple months because they are not weatherproof.

Banofi, is it the busy- ness of the shirt you dislike, or do you dislike the busy-ness on me? I don't think my frame or features do well with a lot of bold pattern, or maximal anything, although I like maximal looks. If anything, ethereal and light details look best.

I have wide shoulders too, and for me a seam that far inside my own shoulder line is just a no. I have a great alterations lady and I keep her busy, but we always start with good fit in the shoulder because it's the one thing she can't fix if it's wrong.

I don't think the blouse is a good candidate for alteration b/c by the time you size up enough to get the shoulder right, you may have other problems like sleeve length, armhole size, etc. And the seaming alone probably makes it impractical to alter.

That jacket is beautiful; I wanted it myself. Maybe it's the shirt tail hanging below it, but it looks to me like it's too short, or at least short-waisted, on you.

Sorry, wish I had something more positive to say.

I love the jacket on you. Looks amazing with your grey hair and what a beautiful metaphor -- storm cloud in the blue sky.

The shirt appears to fit beautifully in the smaller size, except I'm not sure about that shoulder line. How does it feel when you move your arms? I am a rectangle with slight IT tendencies (also slight pear tendencies, hey, does that make me an hourglass? ;) ) ... but I remember the last time puff sleeves were in style...I had a couple of tops I really liked but I did have to order up to accommodate my shoulders. The look would be fine in a smaller size, but comfort was not there.

I am with the others on the booties. If is is in the budget to upgrade, go for it. The wedge looks a bit "heavy" for your style descriptors.

When I read your style descriptors, I don't automatically make the connection to either the shirt or the jacket. I can't help but wonder about the longevity of the shirt because of it's style and trendiness. It doesn't say calm, serene, or elegant to me. It's edgy, more than anything . And the jacket - it fits you really well and is a lovely style, but I wonder if it fits well into your colour scheme? I don't want to sound like I have nothing nice to say - in fact those are great pieces - but once I read your own comment above, I looked at the pieces through those eyes and ...well....

The RT jacket looks fine to my eye. Both pieces are really beautiful and from what I have seen of your style, I do not think they depart from it. I do not think the SW are outdated, and I agree with Firecracker that they are a bit more feminine than the Aquatalias..

Thanks Unfrumped, these are definitely different looks for me. I am not consciously looking to stray from my typical style sensibility. In fact, there has been major turmoil at work, and I think there is comfort in having well defined characteristics about my personal style that go unchanged. It feels strangely reassuring to dress nicely, and "look like myself" amid all the insecurity.

Having this in mind, I should really be asking if these clothes follow my style statements and adjectives, etc. Serene Elegance, and Genuine Composed. My style adjectives are Soft, Calm, Fresh, Classic, Polished, Light. I have an overall theme of Tropical Beach in mind right now when I am thinking about what I buy. If I can find something about an item that fits a nautical or tropical theme, I can find a place for it in my style. I think the stripes in the VB shirt might work along that line, and the chest detail reminds me of a bikini swim top. The jacket is a storm cloud in a blue sky.

I think the smaller sized shirt fits you better. I hate to say it, but I'm not terribly fond of the shirt - it seems too busy to me with the puffed shoulders and all the seams. I do, however, love the RT jacket on you - you look great in it! I also really like the Aquatalias on you, and think they would be a great replacement for the Stuart Weitzman wedges.

Agreeing with Firecracker--size 6 shirt looks better (great shirt! It is my favourite NAS item!) and the Aquatalias look slightly more current. For me, I would think about how much use I've had out of the older pair. If I got good use out of them, I would update to the new pair. If not, I would keep the old pair.

Ah, for the days when my skirt size was smaller than my jacket. (I used to swim, too.)

The blouse is really interesting, the position of the seams. It looks Victorian to me. I can't give any advice as to size, sorry. I prefer the new boots to the old ones. But I don't care for wedges, so YMMV. I think the jacket is a little short, too. If the peplum weren't so pronounced, I think it would probably be okay.

I prefer the VB shirt in the smaller size. It certainly has a lot of seams! Very detailed looking. I like the block heeled booties better.

Not an expert here, but I think the size 6 shirt fits better, but not a fan of the puffy shoulders.
I love the RT jacket! Looks great on you.
I think the SW do not look dated if you can get another season out of them.

I think the smaller shirt looks perfect. If it's comfortable, I would keep and not alter. I think it's okay if your shoulder extends a little bit into the puff; a sleeve cap is designed to accommodate the outer rounded edge of one's shoulder. If you feel it the shoulder extends so much that the armhole seam feels uncomfortable on your shoulder, then that's a problem, and you would need to go up a size and alter the body of the larger size.
The jacket looks good to me. It's hard to see, but it doesn't look too big. I think both pieces look really nice on you and they look good together!

I do think the Aquatalias look more current than your SWs. The heel on the SWs is not as current looking. However, if we're not comparing, I think the SWs are still perfectly wearable. It comes down to how much are you itching for the more current block heel, and/or how much do you want a waterproof pair? The Aquatalias read a little more tough to me, not quite as feminine, if that makes a difference.

I am an outlier; I think the jacket peplum style hits too short on your torso. It may also depend on what tops & bottoms you would style it with.
I like the blue stripes and general fit on you but not so much the puffy sleeves.
These are just in comparison to some of your other items that I think fit you better. But you may be looking for a change.

IT is inverted triangle, my shoulders are slightly wider than my hips. My jacket size is almost always larger than my trouser size because of my shoulders. I was a swimmer for years. I don't really have broad shoulders, but in relative terms, they are broader than the rest of me! :-)

The jacket is the NAS Rebecca Taylor tweed jacket. I think it's also an Angie pick.

Then you are in trouble with the shoes...
Unless you want to have the waterproof replacement ready, but it sounds like you have doubts and if so it may be best not to keep.
Thanks for the jeans brand. I will keep an eye on J Crew jeans.

I love the jacket but am not sure about the shirt sizing. I like both on you, though. I personally like the SW better but do not know if they're dated.
Is the jacket from NAS? Which designer? I'm a rectangle too.

Thanks Shiny, I added a better picture of the booties. I agree it was hard to see the differences.

Joyce, the Jeans are J Crew Lookout Highrise skinny crop jeans in a tall size. The booties are very similar. The heel height is almost identical. The stability of both is about the same. The comfort of both is excellent.
