If the zipper is not inserted correctly in a very stretchy fabric, the back ends up with a roll near the end of the zipper. Is that were the extra fabric is sitting? If so, you might want to take the dress to a tailor and see if it is possible to remove the zipper and just stitch up the back seam if you don't need a zipper to get in and out of the dress.
