Yes, Peri. I thought about trying the L too. Sounds like we had the exact same fit! I was a little tired of shopping at that point and I hadn't taken a L into the dressing room, so I just gave up. Maybe I'll try the L at some point. It is nice and soft and drapey, which is good, so maybe the oversized vibe won't be overwhelming, as you say.

I ordered both M and L and I'm keeping the L, so I'd say overall to size up. But that may just be for us "blessed" (no!) women. The M fit fine except for the pulling at the bust that Janet already mentioned.

The overall fit of the L is oversized on me but not huge and I wanted it for the loose and cozy lounge at home vibe, so that's fine. Why do I need a $100 flannel shirt to lounge at home in, you ask? Well...I don't! I'm keeping it anyway. My dog is going to love me in it. ;)

Thanks for asking, Peri. I wondered too. I’m often tempted to size up for room in the hips, where these shirts are often too snug, and for arm length, but then get a weird fit with too much room in the body and across the back. I suspect I’ll just have to try on to know for sure.

I wear my regular size in the Rails shirt --- it is comfortably fluid, not truly oversized. I do not put it in the dryer, ever.

I’m usually a M in tops and I have two Rails shirts in M too. The fit is comfy loose but not oversized. In colder weather, I sometimes wear a Uniqlo Heattech tank under them and still find them comfortable.

I do not put them in the dryer, however.

I am usually a medium but size up for Rails to a L. They don't have any give and I find the shirt to be constricting and uncomfortable even though it "fits" in the medium.

It might depend on how you are washing Rails' flannel shirts - they are TTS mostly but I once had a customer returning the shirt that shrunk too much in length after the wash. Going up the size could work pretty well ( or getting both sizes for the sure fit ).

I'm thinking this might be the year I try one. I'm in between the white/grey and white/blue. I would want a loose, comfy fit...oversized but not "borrowed my husband's" huge. I'm usually a M. Should I go M or L to get a bit oversized?
