I'm always amazed at how even small weight fluctuations can change how an item looks. I have gained a few pounds over the last several months, and I too feel like my clothes look better at my lower weight. But since they still fit, and look OK (just not great), I'm still wearing them. Hopefully eventually things will be more back to normal and I can engage in more exercise and go back to my previous weight.

Yes, it depends completely on the cut of an item, the type of waistband, etc. And the size. The smaller the size, especially in more tailored items, the less your weight can vary. In larger sizes it often takes a more significant weight loss or gain to change sizes.

And yes, having a realistic assessment of how an item looks on you is important.

I always gain 3-5 lbs at that time of the month - thanks, hormones. Weighing myself everyday actually helps so I know what’s real and what’s in my head. At my height, it doesn’t really change my size, but I don’t feel as good in my clothes those days. I’m sure that’s also due to hormones, but I prefer my clothes a little looser - I notice, anyway!

I think it depends on how your clothes fit to begin with. My weight fluctuates up and down a few pounds and at my height, that can be a size. I'm on the upper end of normal but most everything fits--just a little more closely than I prefer. I don't think anyone could tell but me to be honest--I totally agree with Janet here. Where you carry the weight probably makes a difference too and how much of it is muscle.

I'm of the belief that just because you can still get a piece of clothing on, it doesn't mean it fits . I fell into this trap for SO many years, convincing myself that because I could still squeeze into a size 4 or 6 that I still must be that size.

We all gain weight differently. I put on about 10 pounds in January and note that my jeans and a few of my tops are snug but, like Janet, most of my clothes still fit. I am not happy about gaining weight, but I haven’t done anything yet to try to lose it yet. I definitely do not think things fit better when I weigh more.... :-( Menopause and stress may make it hard to lose the extra pounds, so I am mostly working to prevent additional gain.

I understand. I feel like I gained a little weight this year but my clothes still seem to fit. (I don’t own a scale so I only find out my weight when I go to the doctor.) I always *feel* like my clothes look better when my size is a little smaller, but I believe most people do not notice this the way we notice it about ourselves.

Sometimes things can look better with a little bit of extra weight! (I say slightly hopefully! Because I am in the same place).

I know what you mean and I am nodding with you. I am going back to the principles of WW in the next few days.

I have gained a few pounds-not much- but the new things I bought last February still fit, but the big problem is they just don't look the same. So, for me, it seems the styles just do not look like I want them to. At least they are more spring and summery so I can take off these few extra pounds before wearing them. I have not had weight fluctuations for many years until the last two years. I did not realize that is so much an issue with how items look on me.
