Thanks, guys!

Jonsey, the color is "vino", but to me it seems to be a cross between brown and burgundy. . .the appearance is affected greatly by light. My hope was that the color ambiguity would let it function almost like a neutral, but when paired with, say a pair of black pants, it could be a pop of color.

mgshakes, I'll try the skirt with the top tucked in and with a fitted shirt as an alternative and see how that goes. BTW, the denim pencil skirt was from J Crew and first posted on YLF by Vani. So many wonderful ideas on this site!

This all looks amazing! Keep the booties. I don't think this type that comes up past your ankle bone is meant to hug your ankle at all. They add a modern twist to your fantastic skirt and dress outfit! Love it with the colored tights, too.

Yay for your first WIW! I love the first look--polished but with definite personality. I think the booties are really great looking. Are they maroon or dark brown? (my monitor is doing wacky things with colors these days....)

Really lovely ensembles! I think the booties look really great the way you've styled them, and I've definitely seen them styled with a gap in the ankle in fashion magazines and such. I have slender calves and ankles too, and I personally think a bootie that snugs up against my ankle bone and exposes the slimmest part of my ankle as it curves in and back out as it meets my foot makes my legs look more curvy and feminine (or is it a shootie if it is shorter like that?). The way you've styled these boots though, you've added a little bulk to the bottom of your outfit, and it creates a nice proportion. I think it's a matter of what look you prefer.

Both of your outfits are so pretty; I especially like the pants and ruffled blouse with the cardigan - it looks like a magazine photo. The boots do look loose in the ankle to me - not from the front view but from the side. If your choice is these or no boots at all, I'd stick with these, as they are still cute. However, snugger in the ankle would be even better. I'm just wondering, can a cobbler take them in a little? Can shoes be tailored?

Wow, I'm so glad you've joined the WIW crowd! You're a vision of loveliness!

Your first outfit is so classic and beautiful; I love the colours on you. Perfect.

I like those booties, too, and think you can certainly wear the look, but wonder about the ankle business as well. I hope you get some advice from more experienced members!

Sheesh. You are SO fab! I love that first combination. Those colors are lovely on you. And that dress is fantastic on you. You look terrific. I love those colored tights on you, and I think that you can pull off the booties, since the gap isn't so noticeable from the front, and you've done a good job of keeping the booties and the tights low contrast and your legs are about 2 miles long. BUT, I am definitely on a steep learning curve here with respect to booties and skirts/dresses, so I'll defer to others.

Thanks for delurking - you're a style inspiration!

Wow, you hit your first WIW out of the park. Well done!

I love those boots and think they look fabulous on your slim legs!!! I have fairly slim calves and ankles, enough so that tall boots never look right on me, they stick out to the side because I don't fill them out. I happen to think booties look great on slim ankles/calves, they turn that trait into a positive.

#1 is fabulous on you. I'll be watching this thread as I've tried on dozens of booties lately and also struggle with thin ankles and calves. I think these Donald Pilner's work on you because of the heels and your beautiful long legs. The length of your frocks also looks just right to my eye.

The first outfit is gorgeous.

I think you look great in those very cute booties. Slender legs/ankles are made for this style.

I wonder how you'd look in a pair that fit a little more closely around the ankle? Although you can certainly carry off these ones, a smaller ankle opening could be even more fab.

Great! Love that first outfit in 2, with the blue pencil skirt...I don't know much about this, but would tucking in the top work at all...?

Those booties are ridiculously nice, I take it you're wondering whether the gap between shoes and ankles is ok? I'm not sure I can judge, but I'm waiting with bated breath for others' input on because I am your thin ankles/ calves teammate!

After being on YLF for about a year, here's a first WIW and what should I wear (i.e. should the booties stay or go back)?

The first picture set is what I wore today:
BR ruffled top
BR velveteen trousers
Black pumps (Clark's Indigo)
BR cardigan

The second picture set is built around a pair of very pretty Donald J Pilner booties. Only I'm part of team thin ankles and thin calves. Do you think these boots work? I'd love your input!!
