Thanks everyone. Ii am feeling very good about the closet right now. So much better than before. I can find what I want, and it is easier to pick clothes to make an outfit when I am groggy and rushed in the morning.

I spent some time reading Angie's description of the Rectangle body type and her suggestions on how to style people who have it. I fit her description of the body type perfectly, "lean limbs, a straight waist, and look quite athletic". (Look at my screen name ) "...not all that curvy around the hips, waist and bust, instead you look quite angular." It's me, and it's been like getting a pair of new glasses with clearer vision.

Gigi, thanks for the warning about the Ivory tops. I will use care in choosing which to toss. I counted them and have around 20! They take up a lot if space in my closet. I know some are better than others. It is an easy place to start because it is glaringly obvious.

Suz, I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only person who has gone from Pretty Pear to Racy Rectangle overnight. Thanks for suggesting Karie's posts. I will look them up.

I look forward to seeing how my wardrobe evolves now that I have this new knowledge.

Good job.
Focusing color palette can be very liberating, and helps wardrobe versatility ,in my experience. Sounds like you have a good handle on that.

With time passing by, I increasingly come to find myself pear shaped -- especially since being sticked to the office chair every weekday.

Splendid work! And such great insights already. It's pretty amazing how much we can learn when we edit mindfully, as you've done.

On the body type issue -- it is funny, but there seems to be a slight tendency for many straight/ boyish figured women to believe we are pear shaped! If you check forum mate Karie's posts in the archives you'll find that she, too, believed she was a pretty pear. And it is pretty clear to everybody else that she is a slim rectangle/ hourglass!

Meanwhile, I grew up believing I was pear shaped. I am not tall and slender like you and Karie...and it is true, my body shape has changed somewhat with age and increased fitness. But now when I think back, I wonder if I ever really was a pear at all. Maybe I was always that slim hourglass/ rectangle hybrid? And if so, why the heck did I always see myself as a pretty pear? It's a mystery.

With your short hair and long neck, a crew neck may well be a very flattering neckline for you. So perhaps that's partly why you enjoy wearing them?

Wow, it sounds like you are off to a great start. Congratulations on staying strong on the items you didn't want. That can really be hard. And I love how you could pinpoint *why* you didn't want the items—that's such a big help in not making more mistake purchases.

On the ivory blouses, I love them too. Before YLF, I used to pretty much buy only ivory tops; I don't think I had a single nonwhite top! When I started YLF, I began buying colors and stayed away from white tops, because I was sick of it (I did, however, buy white bottoms). Well, when cooler weather came and it was time to switch to heavier-weight clothing, I discovered with dismay that my warmer bottoms were almost all dark colors, and now all my tops were dark too! So I began looking for white- and light-colored tops again. I mention this because I want to let you know that when you start auditioning your ivory tops, please don't feel like you *have* to let some go simply because you have a lot of them. You may find them immensely useful down the road to lighten up an outfit.

Well done! I also like Into Mind but have not tried her workbook. Will be happy to hear a report if anyone has. It seems that you have not just cleaned your closet but learned a lot in the process.

Sounds like you are doing great. How do you feel. I bet there is a sense of freedom and order that has come with getting rid of things you don't wear?

Haven't worked through any specific processes but love Into Mind and I know many have found that blog most helpful.

Great work and keep it up.

Over the past few weeks since I started with this wonderful community I have worked on a fall clothing capsule, begun the process of sorting through my clothes, and am trying to discover what styles look best on me, fit my lifestyle best, and make me feel happy. I want to stop over-purchasing and really start to hone in on purchasing fewer better quality items, that I really enjoy wearing.
.
My closet clean- out was a big success. I eliminated around 1/3 of the clothing items. All of which I did not wear. Many of them were reclaimed by my daughter, who made her best attempt to get me to keep them. I stayed true to my cause in most cases, and did not take things back. I noted that most of the items eliminated were of bright vivid colors like orange, yellow, or red, or they were made of scratchy wool or some other material that was not soft and light feeling on my skin. (I like Merino and cashmere), or they were of some style that I did not think was flattering. Shoes were the only item I eliminated that truly showed any wear and tear. I eliminated 12 pairs, and they were all well worn.

I noticed some patterns within my closet:
1. I seem to love long sleeve solid color cashmere crew sweaters.
2. I also seem to love ivory blouses and tops of all sorts. They live in abundance in my closet.
3. I like straight leg jeans.
4. I like solid colors, and soft warm colors, but not too much grey, navy and definitely not black (except in shoes)

Now that Angie has helped clarify my body shape, I feel like I will be better able to pick appropriate styles that suit my frame. I saw myself as primarily pear shaped, and Angie says that I appear straight/boyish figured. I hope that shift in thinking will help me understand why so many of the items I have picked in the past did not feel "right". I am not sure how much difference there is between what a pear can wear and someone with a straight figure, because I haven't done my homework yet, but I will.

I plan to try wearing the items that are in my closet to see if I can eliminate any more. I have so many summer Ivory blouses that I am going to do a run of wearing one every day until I have worn them all. I have no idea which I like and which I don't? I will photograph them and then decide. Perhaps I will need some help?

I am also going to look into going through a process, maybe like the one in the new workbook by ANUSCHKA REES of the Into Mind Blog. “personal style & the perfect wardrobe // a workbook” . Has anyone tried it?
