I also liked the James Perse on you but if you don't think it's suitable for your lifestyle, that's that.

I think the sweater arm length is fine--I have very long arms for my height and that's how a lot of long-sleeved things hit me--I usually just push up my sleeves to make it a ruched 3/4th sleeve elbow. You could hold onto it while stalking the regular sized one.

I like the Michael Kors trench on you, too.

I do like the JP jacket and am considering it for myself in olive green. Makes sense what you are saying. It needs to be effortless. That is what I like about JP. I am 5'7" so I wonder how cropped it will be on me!
I like the Paige jeans too. I am always taking the waist in on my jeans.

@Liz A.: Love your kitties! Mine is only a Maine Coon mix, and female, so thankfully not in the 20 pound range. She takes up plenty of room on the couch as it is :)

@Angie: Ah, you make my decisions so difficult! (But I so appreciate it.) I actually returned the jacket late last night to my local store since I hate floating the money on my card. But I think I made the right decision because I have several cropped toppers already (black leather jacket, denim jacket) and I find the length difficult to style. The denim jacket is great with, but limited to, dresses or high-waisted skirts. And the leather moto, which I love (and purchased during my first major NAS shopping trip in 2013), gets worn much less because the crop doesn’t play well with my many hip-length tops.

@Amy: I prefer to distinguish between short/long-waisted and short/long-torsoed (or short/long rise; I have a long rise which is disguised by my preference for low-rise bottoms). My torso is long, but all of the length is *below* my natural waist. I frequently need to get tops/dresses taken up at the shoulder to shorten the armholes because I have a short shoulder-to-bust measurement.

@kikidee: Thank you! The floral blouse is actually old J.Crew, in a limited edition Liberty print. I snagged it on eBay after YEARS of stalking, as it was out of my budget at the time.

The JP jacket is pretty fab, I agree, but needs to be more versatile for my lifestyle at its price point. Plus I’d mentally decided that I would only keep one of the TT military coat (still on backorder) and the JP jacket… when the jacket arrived, I found myself much more excited about the coat, which would travel better on planes than my current blush wool coat.

Love the trench. Great color and style, only you can decide how it feels though. Agree keep the JP, but also get that the price my be inhibiting if it doesn't fit your needs.
Also love your equipment? blouse underneath!

1st love the black and white oxfords you are wearing in the last set of photos....

the james perse is just fab! love the way it fits you. i think the jeans look great, and all my jeans fit this way, so i guess I'm just used to nipping in the waist. but certainly try the smaller size. and i love the STS crops. and the sneakers (both the New Balance and the UGGs) are great additions.

i hear you re the dress....its just so hard to find one that fits perfectly.

I think the trench looks good, and the petite may be just what you need in order to get the sleeve length a little shorter. You might try a size up in petite, too, to see how the underarm area feels.

Your new sneakers are totally fun; so much more interesting than the black ones!

The Paige jeans look great, but I can see what you mean in the photo where you're showing the back waist gap. Be prepared for the possibility that this style won't fit your new shape as well as it did your old shape. Sizing down may just make the jeans tighter all over. Definitely worth a try, though!

Those STS jeans look really cool with the pretty print blouse and feminine oxfords. They are a great cropped-flare style for you.

If your upper torso is longer than average for your height, then you're long-waisted. I like the jacket on you, but it has to be something you want to wear and don't struggle with.

I have to run, but am chiming in quickly to say that you should rethink sending back the James Perse jacket. It looks KILLER both ways and it will be tricky to get it in your size after you send it back.

@smittie: Thanks for the styling tips on the JP jacket. I really wanted it to be effortless though, so having to wear specific tops underneath will limit my ability to throw it on and go. Still, it’s an amazing jacket and I hope someone else will get it!

@julesgr: I’m short-waisted but I have a particularly long torso for my height (5’2” and a smidge). People routinely think I’m taller when they meet me sitting down—the difference is apparently stark enough that they’ve remarked on it!

@viva: Nothing too intensive, but I picked up figure skating 6 months ago and have definitely noticed my semblance-of-a-waist returning to its college days when I did yoga twice a week. Highly recommend if you enjoy ice skating but are bored going around in circles.

@Liz A.: I think the gauchos do look better in person, although it’s also a different silhouette from my usual tailored. I hope that they’re JFE, and I’m excited to wear them so perhaps I’ll post a WIW in a few days to get more feedback on styling.

The exotic animal, btw, is my lovely and LARGE Maine Coon mix cat, Maya. I read somewhere that Angie’s Sam is only 5.5 lbs; let’s just say that Maya is more than twice his weight! And she was a somewhat bony 10 lbs when we first got her from the shelter.

Here she is in one of the big flat Nordstrom boxes, which is one of the few boxes that she actually fits into (although proper fit is not one of her criteria for a 'keeper' box).

The James Perse and the Paige look just perfect to me! I know what you mean about the jacket as outerwear, but it would work with dresses and skirts if that is a need. The Michael Kors also looks good, so you will have to be the judge on the underarm fit issue. I have to say I'm not super feeling the gauchos on you. Maybe they look better in person? And what sort of exotic animal is that behind you in pic 12? ;)

Are you sure about the James Perse double-breasted jacket? I think it looks really great. Do you think you could wear a column of colour, or maybe wear a longer blouse (tunic-ish) to fix the proportions (which look good to me when its buttoned, but maybe it's just too short to be a useful jacket?)

To me the trench looks great! Beautiful fit and the fabric looks like it lies nicely.

That lace sweater is so pretty on you. I so hope you are able to get the size you want.

Too bad about the dress, but I get what you are saying. I have this problem with fit and flare dresses, also. We have some body type similarities -- I'm also short in waist, long in rise, and while I do have a waist, it's not super evident.

Love the Feathers bras, too -- the grey is a pretty colour. Thank goodness for NAS stocking up. And hope you get a size in the jeans that works for you.

Re the Michael Kors -- I actually like the look on you, although I suspect this style might be at its best on a busty person. Sleeves don't look at all too long to me. However, it doesn't sound like you are thrilled and it doesn't compare to the CM trench on you at all. Maybe Angie will weigh in with suggestions. Hope so.

I got a bunch of NAS packages a day early today! Here's a quick review that got terribly long...

1-2) James Perse Double Breasted Blazer, 0. I had high hopes for this as my splurge. It's super comfortable and a very high quality knit; the size 0 (= 00 according to Nordstrom) fits me the way I wanted, slim. But ultimately I'm returning because I forgot that cropped toppers throw my proportions off when they're buttoned, and I need this jacket to be able to button (I would wear it as outerwear during summer outings up to San Francisco, and the notorious SF summer chill is real).

3) Halogen Lace Detail Crewneck Sweater, XSP. Super feminine and pretty, soft knit, beautiful lace. But the petite size is too short in the sleeves (unusual, as I have short arms), and all regular sizes are currently sold out I'll be stalking this one.

4-5) Michael by Michael Kors Asymmetrical Zip Front Hooded Trench, XSP. I was actually somewhat disappointed by this coat, expecting perfection, but it's a solid 8-9/10 and I need a raincoat replacement so I'm probably keeping it. The underarms are a bit snug (the coat rides up when I raise my arms) but the bust is roomy so I couldn't size up. Sleeves are also a tad long despite ordering a petite, although acceptably so for a raincoat. I do like the styling a lot for a gear piece. It just won't be replacing my CM toffee trench as a topper for dry days (which is good in its own way, no splitting wears).

Request: I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts on the trench. For now I put it in my closet but kept the tags on.

6-8) Paige Verdugo Ankle Skinny Jeans, 26. I've tried this style from Paige in many washes over multiple years, so I was pretty confident in my sizing. But I've lost a few pounds recently since I picked up a new sport, and this size is loose in the back waist/upper rear. I could get it tailored, but I ordered the size 25 to compare first. I think the jean still fits TTS, it's just my body that has changed shape somewhat (my previously nonexistent waist has a tiny bit of nip). The color and fabric are divine!

9-10) Vince Camuto Floral Scuba Fit & Flare Dress, 2. I loved this dress on first sight online, but the fit is off on me. Too puffy in the waist despite tailoring darts there. I tried to show what I mean in photo 10. The dress might work better for someone with a longer waist--I have a long torso but a short waist--or more curves to fill it out.

11-12) UGG Gradie High Top Sneakers, 5. I think these sneakers run a bit large, but only if you're between sizes. Easy to adjust the fit with a thicker pair of socks if needed. They look fine on the foot but felt a bit masculine for me, even as a Sporty Luxe wildcard; I much preferred the New Balance butterfly sneakers that also arrived today (shown in 8 and discussed below).

13) Natori Feathers bra in smoke/blue spruce, 32B. A great bra (I buy a new one every year at NAS) that fits a range of sizes, especially shallow breast shapes. Runs small, at least on the small end of the size range, as I wear a 32A in all other bras including another Natori style. (And I am a properly fitted 32A, I promise. Close to a 30B but I prefer a looser ribcage fit.) I wanted to show this colorway though--it's a slate blue-grey base with deep navy trim, more prominent contrast than the product shot online.

Finally, let me sing the praises of two non-NAS items that also arrived today:

14-17) STS Blue Denim Gaucho Pants, 0/1. Comparable in price to a Chelsea28 pair in the NAS, with a better wash IMO. I've now tried these pants in 3 sizes; I almost gave up after the first size was huge and baggy, and then I almost didn't order two sizes down because no way can I wear a size 0 in juniors (I normally take a 26 in premium denim). But that's the size that fits and looks best! Flip through the photos in order and see how much of a difference a bit of styling makes. 14-16 are the size 0, 17 is the size 1.

shown in 8) New Balance 420 Re-Engineered Sneakers, 5.5. (Not from Nordstrom; they're on sale on the New Balance website and you can Google for many promo codes.) Love love love the teal butterfly wing print. I'm not a sneaker person but I plan to wear these casually without socks, as well as with socks if I'm playing tennis or something. They're very lightweight and comfy, as one would expect from New Balance. Sizing runs TTS to a bit small; the size 5.5 fit like the size 5 in the UGG Gradie sneakers above, for instance.

And that's all for now (thank god, you're thinking). Still waiting on the VC Earina flats in two sizes, plus the Trouve side slit tunic and Trina Turk military coat that I ordered later. I'll probably ask again about the Paige jeans once I have the size down to compare.
