I had my one and only spa facial about 10 years ago, and it was such a painful experience I decided right then and there to not bother again. Maybe I'm missing something.

She gave me an eyebrow wax, which was a "fun" start, then quickly and thoroughly (and painfully) removed blackheads. Then she gave me a salt body scrub, with only a plastic sheet, and sent me naked to the shower to rinse off. The only thing she didn't do was slap my *ss on the way to the shower! LOL She was a buresque Slavic lady and didn't seem to understand gentleness or modesty...(She was part of a Home Spa Party that my sister had come to her house for a spa day.)

In the next room my friend got blankets and warm oil, and a backrub....Argh!!

Needless to say we had quite a few laughs over that, since half of our group got my lady and when they'd come out of the room wide-eyed we'd laugh knowingly and then commiserate...

Sounds wonderful! I'm really going to have to do some research and see if that service is even available anywhere near me.

Great info, Kari!

I love a facial AND a pedicure. I will take both of those treatments over a full body massage any day!

I'm soooo happy you are posting again!

I haven't had one in about three years, and my skin seems very cranky right now. Thanks for the reminder! I think I'll treat myself to a facial next week.

Isn't it lovely? I am going about every 6 weeks, when my milia are all gone (I can see the progress) I want to go a bit less often as it eats quite a bit out of my budget

Thank you for the detailed review/explaination of the facial/. I have never gone for one, but my old roomie used to go once a month - she totally swore by them! I remember when she got back she would always glow; man, I need some glow! Or sleep!

I am hooked on facials. I go every 2 or 3 months, and it really helps my skin. The next day or two, it's red and pimples come to surface I didn't even know I had, but after that, my skin looks pretty good. I think they help a lot.

I was thinking of Angie this afternoon as I embarked on the first facial of my life. (I tried it partly because Angie has mentioned previously that she swears by them, and partly because I got a Groupon recently for a nearby salon.)

It was a great experience - incredibly relaxing, pain-free, and my skin is just glowing. We did some treatments with essential oils and a liquid & steam exfoliator, followed by an extremely gentle manual extraction process on my blocked pores, a short treatment around my eye area to minimize puffiness, and a brief massage of my neck and shoulder area where I get very tender and sore after work. Stress-free and relaxing.
I also learned a few things from the aesthetician who worked with me: apparently I may be over-drying my skin and exfoliating a bit too roughly, causing some minimal broken capillaries, and at this time of year I need to really moisturize a bit more. She gave me some more effective suggestions to treat my problem areas (large pores that are prone to getting blocked or breakouts.) I came home with a couple new products to try out: an herbal clay mask and botanical exfoliant, both by Aveda.

Depending on how my skin reacts in the next month or so, I'm pretty sure I will return for another facial, probably before summer. I just wanted to mention my very positive experience in case any of you have contemplated getting a facial & haven't done so. (For all I know, I'm probably the only one left on the forum who has never tried a facial before.) If any of you in the Seattle area would like a recommendation for the place I went to, feel free to shoot me a private message.

This was much better than my first and only pedicure a few years back. (I learned the hard way that my feet are way too ticklish and sensitive to go through that process ever again!)
