Its not bad at all! I think the biggest improvement you could make is investing in some better fitting bras. Have you ever had a fitting? It will smooth out your tops, improve your posture, and feel better on your back.

Lovely!

I'd wear sneakers / trainers with that outfit too. May be with a bit of yellow in the design.

I've seen it generally recommended to size up in white denim. I tend to wear longer tops with my white jeans too, so all that business just under the waistband is covered.

I see what knit jackets are now thank you.
I was eyeing up waterfall style ones a few months ago.

I LOVE the idea of tan sandals!

I can't believe how many wonderful ideas I'm getting from you all!!

Ahem...so I tried on some white jeans. ..um, borderline traumatic!
I really hate buying trousers/jeans and white ones made my large tummy and hips look monstrous.
They were jeggings - maybe I should have tried regular jeans?
Not sure I'm brave enough though!

Hi Mama! Welcome to YLF!

Love the idea of cuffing, and I think you'd do well to have a pair or warm tan (cognac) or nude colored sandals -- to kind of capture and repeat the tones in your skin and hair and create a sort of "bookend."

I also second white jeans. I find a white shirt gets far dirtier, particularly when I'm eating or cooking! My jeans are lots of fun. I wash them every 3 wears, and I do run my eyes over them and treat them with a prewash and oxy clean. When I get something major on them, there's always a spot treatment with bleach! Oh.... and I'm a size 14.

The first pic is my white cropped jeans (these are Denizen, at Target --- 2 years old). The second is me in my old knit jacket (Olivia Moon -- Nordstrom). There is a navy version on sale at Nordstrom now. I also have a red version by Merona (Target). I think I've seen Navy and Grey versions at my Target this season. They're all made of a good Ponte knit, and are unlined, which makes for more movement and less overheating. They feel like you're wearing a sweater!

I've added a link to my top (also a nice ponte knit -- just lighterweigt) and two knit jackets I've collected in my Finds from Modcloth.

Never in a million years would I have thought of white jeans mainly bc it was drilled into me that white isn't "allowed" bc of my size...but then again now you mention it I'm desperate for white jeans bc I think they'd look fab. ..and also I feel I have lovely legs so why not!

Totally agree about my specs. I'm in the hunt for new ones.

And yep. I need a smooth bra for this outfit. I'm super fussy with bras and hard to fit but I'm learning to sew bras so I'll probably l look into sewing one.

I'm not sure what a knit jacket is? Could someone show me an example pls?

Think this is a great look, perfect for what you said, and would like to congratulate on achieving quite from the first wiw a great pant fit and the most PPL (perfect pants length) to the shoe choice here- which are (believe me!) both quite some pet peeves here for some of us on YLF!
A would suggest only adding a bit of contrast around your face, say a light scarf with some blacks in the pattern or as Angie would suggest some specs with stronger impact. The scarf is perfeps an instant and much cheaper solution-but you'll have to tie it in a way to not bothering you or your kids! Welcome to YLF:-).

This is a great first WIW! I think you look super and the outfit is perfect for chasing after kids. I work in a special education setting where staff often have to chase after kids and I would say your outfit is right in line with the best. I see much worse. For example, some people wear plain grey sweatpants and tee shirts.

Comfort is key, also clothing you can move around in easily and often quickly. Flat or low heel shoes. Nice colors.

You have met all the criteria I can think of.

You look quite good! The question to my mind is how you want to look. Are you chasing your own kids or do you work with children? What are you style goals? What kinds of shoes can you wear? What is your climate? I would start with Angie's first level - glasses and underpinnings and possibly hair (yours looks good here, but it is hard to see).

I like what you are wearing. And I agree with Isabel that you might want to wear a less-visible bra when wearing a knit top.

Are there any accessories that you can wear when you are with the children? I'm thinking of a pendant necklace, pretty scarf, or durable bracelet...not all at once, of course! But if you don't want any accessories (other than shoes, of course!) I think you look good just the way you are.

Colors look really good together and great with your coloring. Maybe one of those bracelets woven out of cording or ribbon with an accent color? They slip on over your hand and tighten. Then if a kiddo pulls on it it won't break and won't hurt your wrist. Necklaces are hard as they can pull on them.

I like the flowy shape of the top on you -- flattering! And it also harmonizes with your gingery hair. You can wear lots of variations on this practical outfit. Do you own a pair of white jeans? I know that sounds impractical, but believe me, they work a lot more easily than you might think! They go right into the wash so you don't need to worry as you might with other whites, and they feel so fresh and summery.

I think your top is a good choice -- I like the way it fits your shoulders, sleeve length and especially that has a good amount of open-ness at the neckline without being revealing. That's hard to find.

I like the flowing, knit type fabrics on you and I imagine they're less confining than woven. Especially with knits, if I changed one thing, a better bra might be a good idea. I'm thinking the visible seams are because the cups are cut low, but the fit doesn't look entirely flattering.

Overall, this outfit is pretty attractive for the days you've described and it was very helpful to see because it reminded me of the parameters of the job. You actually do look pretty dressed up so that's good.

Do you have strong preferences about necklines? Collar, no collar? Pants or dresses? Anything else?

I quite like the mustard and black, and the think the proportions are pretty good. How small is small, when it comes to the kiddies? 'Cuz you could add jewelry to kick it up...but like I always have to stop right where you have, since jewelry is a safety hazard in my line of work...
