Wow thanks for all the recommendations ladies. Luckily I go to school right along 5th ave. so after class I hopped in a bunch of stores that were mentioned here that I've never been to before. Club Monaco was too pricey for me, although they had some fabulous stuff.

Anyway, I'm officially a Zara fan. They had a whole mass of brightly colored v-necks right at the entrance, and for once the fit seemed accurate. I love those European discount shops!

I tend to agree with Antje - Lands End’s quality and price are great but their fit is not ideal and their look is a little conservative. There is a difference between basic and conservative. There are however, body types that this fit will work for. My guess is that the Lands End fit won’t work terribly well for Mayapple's petite frame.

Club Monaco is a super Canadian chain store if you have a certain body type. Their sizes are small and this might be a good option for you Maya. There items do go on sale. I still think that Macy’s is your best bet. I took a client there last week and we were getting gorgeous tops and knitwear on sale for $9.

Eddie Bauer is another place to check. Here's a sweater I personally like:

CLUB MONACO! I've been buying their sweaters for years. They're wool (both Vneck or crew neck), and come in a multitude of colours depending on the season. They may be a little more expensive than the Gap, but they've lasted me years. Good luck!

Agree that Lands End has good quality, but I personally find their fit too loose and the styles a bit conservative. Totally a matter of personal taste, but just wanted to mention it. The sweaters at Zara, for instance, are much more fitted, so they will run tighter and hug the body more. I find the styles more trendy, e.g. narrower trim around the neck and at the bottom. All depends on what you like, mayapple! Of course all of them are very versatile.

New York and Co. have great sweaters! Or at least they did earlier in the season. I also found a couple at Ann Taylor, but again, that was in November.

Lands End!!! They have the NICEST fine guage sweaters in every imaginable style. Cardi, Crew, V, Tunic, short sleeve, long sleeve 3/4 sleeve...and the color range is abundant. The prices are very affordable especially considering the quality.
Check it out:

Macys is another option. Check their sale racks cause the new merchandise is not full sleeve length anymore. Zara is great too. Nordstrom Rack might have possibilities and then there’s the Loft. These places generally have great prices.

Depending on where you live, this might work: Zara has awesome basics, including fine gauge sweaters with v-neck and deep crew neck, with full length sleeves. They also have sleeveless sweaters right now, as well as v-neck and crew-neck cardigans. And the best thing is that they just cost $25-30! The quality is just fine - not superbe, but you can't expect that at this price. They have great colors. I just stocked up on v-neck basic sweaters there myself.

I know it sounds like this should be easy to find, but believe me: it's not.

I am looking for thin knit sweaters that have V and scoop necks, and full length sleeves. Maybe just one style that comes in several saturated colors, and for a relatively inexpensive price so I can buy a few at a time. I just need some lightweight sweaters to throw on and run errands, and to layer with my most favorite swing jacket.

So far I'm not having much luck. I've checked Nordstrom, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Gap, and J Crew. I don't know where else to go! There are a lot of half and 3/4 length sleeves, a lot of expensive sweaters, a lot of dull colors, and a lot of crew neck sweaters out there. I just can't seem to find the right combination of inexpensive, colorful, vneck/scoop neck, and long sleeved!
