OK!

I tried the NYDJ Sylvias & the Gap authentic girlfriends (both ordered online), and also some stuff at Torrid that I did not write down.

I'm keeping the Sylvias. The fit isn't perfect but they are comfy and I love the stripe. The Gap jeans were such a ridiculously poor fit that I was almost laughing, and the Torrid stuff that my local place had was also not a good fit.

The search continues.......

Angie,

The Loft doesn't run to my current size (their 18s zip on me, but I wouldn't say it's a flattering look), and Talbots jeans fit me very oddly indeed (too loose in the stomach, too tight in the rear, shows bumcrack when just standing around). I wish their jeans cut was more like their dress pants cut -- I have two really great Talbots pantsuits.

Thanks, I will check Torrid! My bff gets most of her trousers there but she's apple-shaped and also has a much more feminine style than I do, so it hadn't occurred to me.

Have you tried Torrid? Whenever I walk by them at the mall they seem to have some pretty on trend items and hourglass-y cuts. I haven't ever tried on their pants though, just some skirts.

The Loft and Talbots has the best curvy fits. Have you tried those?

Unfortunately, none of the brands that Angie rec'd in that post work particularly well in their boyfriend cuts on my body, and some of them don't carry my size.

NYDJ and Gap are the closest, but are a bit weird in the rise. I might try JLos if I can find any in the right size to try on, though, thanks!

Angie has replied to some fairly recent posts with specific Jean recommendations for curvy fits. I can't seem to search the forum right now but hopefully you can dig it up.

Brands I've had luck with are NYDJ, Kut from the Kloth and I've heard jLo and old navy rockstar are good.

Best of luck.

So the short version is that I need to replace my entire wardrobe due to an illness that radically changed my size, and I'm having trouble.

I am now borderline straight/plus sizes, usually an 18-20 or 16W-18W. I am extremely hourglassy (34JJ bust, 36" waist, 50" hip), and so I strongly prefer that my trousers have some stretch because even with curvy fits, that's a difficult find (curvy fits often assume around a 10-11" differential).

My presentation is vaguely soft-butch, and I have a very long torso -- even though I'm 5'2", I often purchase Tall tops. I have no front rise to speak of but a long back rise due to bubble butt.

What I prefer to live in are soft, comfy, stretchy, boyfriend (or girlfriend) cuts, in shorts and jeans, that ride lower in the front but have plenty of coverage in the back, and don't have a completely horrid gap in the waistband. (I can take it in a little, but only so much, you know?)

I'm happy to wear men's jeans to get the cut I want, but usually the front rise is too long (though I used to wear men's Luckies).

Any brand suggestions or particular features to look for, or stores to poke around in?

Two pairs of pants I have that fit well:
- City Chic bootcut jeans, 16W
- Eddie Bauer curvy fit cords, 20
