I, too, think this is a fabulous idea - I really like the concept of adding an icon under the person's avatar that designates their body type!

Another thought would be to have an area where we could post WIWs that is divided into body types. For example, one area for Rectangles where all the rectangles can post WIWs, same for Hourglass, etc... What a helpful resource this would be!

Love the idea. I'm sure Greg can make it happen. He has done such good work with the design and programming of this site!
What I would also love is some photos added to the profile that people have uploaded from themselves. Would be so nice if a person's photos can be found in a special area of the profile so that you don't have to go through all the forum posts to see them...

There are just some many factors here--- when you are just talking about primary and secondary body types it works, but there are so many modifiers and if we get into measurements it gets really complicated, but even simple things aren't always truly equal across the board.

For example, I am only 5'8"-- but I usually look for fit recommendations from the ladies that are 5'10-6'1" because I wear a 36" inseam in flats and have a 6'1" wingspan-- extremely long limbs.

The physical measurement matching was sort of a pie in the sky idea.

From an algorithmic point of view, it's not that hard to implement. Get all the data, stick it in a database and then when you query the database, your doubles are anyone whose measurements are within 1" of yours in bust/waist/hips and maybe 2" in height.

I think the tricky part is the database overhead from both the integration with the existing table of user information + extra computational load to do the analysis (if done in real time) + other db issues I haven't thought of yet.

I like Ornella's idea - if we had body types and height on the profiles, that would get us most of the way there.

Greg, whatever you decide to implement, I'm sure it will be fantastic. The site is already so thoughtfully designed - the role buttons are a brilliant way to encourage sane participation and reduce trolling.

Thank you, Greg! I think it will be a really helpful addition and will give newcomers an easier way to find people whose looks might especially inspire them; it's already there in the profiles, as you say, but not everyone puts that info up and it's a bit awkward to have to go to the person's profile to check if they are a double.

We love this idea! It is actually what we had in mind when we created the profile. In fact, we haven't done a good job telling people about the fact that you can put some of the info Ornella mentions in your profile today (e.g. primary/secondary body type).

But we haven't done anything meaningful with that information yet. Too many ideas and too little time. Given that this seems very popular we'll take another look and see whether we can make it a bigger priority.

So yes, it sounds possible and we'll think more about making it happen.

Thanks for the great suggestions. Keep them coming!

Last week Sona started a thread about wanting to find her YLF body type twin.

Sylvie then suggested the following:

"Actually, what would be really cool is if YLF did a survey and we all filled in our body shapes/modifiers and a standard set of measurements (bust, height, waist, hips).

All this data gets stored in a YLF database under the highest levels of security. :)

An automated script then matches up people by body type and physical dimensions and sends participants a list of their body doubles."

That would be a terrific objective measure, which could be useful, but might be difficult to put into practice? Not being a techie, I'm not sure.

But Ornella had an idea that we could devise little icons (similar to our roles) that could appear near our avitars, so that it would be easy to see at a glance who your approximate body doubles are. And that sounds like a fairly easy one to do, to me. We could have one for each of the body types, plus one for petite and one for taller than average, and perhaps one for plus size women also?

Do you think it would be possible to make that happen? What could we do do facilitate? Don't want to load more work on you! This site is fantastic and this is not a complaint!
