The Vivienne Files blog has a nice way to put together a cohesive wardrobe, and it you like charts, it makes it simple.
YLF does a great job on figuring out what makes you happy in clothes, rather than just, you know, dressed!

I found a lot of free analytic tools on The Concept Wardrobe. It helped me sort out my best colors, and a palette for my work wardrobe. Once you have some parameters like that, it can be easier to figure out what to add.

Welcome! I second what Suz and everyone has said.

I’m pretty quirky - my moniker is Quirky Waif. When I worked corporate, I was partial to unconventional suits. Victorian-like blouses would be a nice nod to the Gothic and feminine.

Welcome to the forum.

I would start by thinking how you want to dress and where your gaps are. Do you like a classic style or a more trendy look? What can you wear to work? What do you own that you like already?

For me the three biggest things that make me feel good are the right shoes, the right haircut and the right bag. If I have that in place I can wear a work uniform and feel okay about myself.

There are lots of resources out there - it’s taking what applies to you and narrowing the focus that can be hard.

Welcome! I would echo that you will find a wealth of information on here and would suggest looking through the 'Advice' section: https://youlookfab.com/style-advice/

It's got a ton on info of dressing for your body type, and the section on wardrobe planning has some great information too. I think if you are building a new wardrobe, looking at the article about Wardrobe Essentials might be especially helpful. It sounds like you have a handle of what style you like, so it's a matter of getting specific around your needs so that you can then fill them one by one.

Good luck and you'll find lots of support on here

There is a huge amount of info on this site, you need to search for what is the most important ATM.

when I did a complete overhaul of my wardrobe in 2015, my starting point was identifying my colors. Next was building a small seasonal capsule wardrobe for work. I worked 5 days a week in an office so I needed at least 5 tops plus 5 bottoms. When I decided on the style, I assessed what I had left after a big wardrobe edit and compiled a shopping list. I needed basics or essentials first, it is usually one of the wardrobe building blocks.

Good luck to you!

Welcome! You might start by taking a look at the blog archives, especially the section labeled "you." and "your context." That will give you a start on identifying your style aspirations and how you might incorporate goth and feminine elements into your corporate work environment. Some people find it helpful to make an image board of looks that appeal to them.

You might also list your weekly roles and activities, e.g. how many days/ hours at work (and what your wardrobe needs for work are), what you like to do on weekends and clothes you need for that, any other roles or specific types of outfit you might need (parenting? date-night? participation in a sport or type of workout), etc. What is the minimum number of outfits you can manage on for now?

It can also help to identify a core colour palette for yourself. What are your favourite neutrals? How about colours?

When I had to build a wardrobe up from scratch due to body and lifestyle changes, I did rely for a year or so on hand-me-downs and thrifted items as well as items from discount outlets as I experimented with my style and saved money to buy more long-lasting pieces. That way, if something didn't work out, I didn't feel I'd wasted a lot of money.

If you participate here on the forum, you'll eventually be able to post photos and we can help you with concrete and specific questions! It can take a while to build a wardrobe from scratch but it is super-rewarding and pays off in confidence!

Hello all! I've struggled with finding the style that fits my body shape and physical features for most of my life. I have a short torso, small chest, and I believe my shoulders are the same width as my hips. I have thick thighs, wide hips, and hip-dips. Simply, I am wide from the front/back view and thin from the side view. I love Gothic style clothing and colorful/feminine clothes, as well. I work in a corporate environment and wear hand me downs from a woman with a totally different style and body type than me and am looking to revamp my wardrobe on a budget but I don't want to waste my money buying the wrong clothes. Can anyone give me some tips?
