I'm a rectangle shape and wear a 32A bra (have been fitted professionally for it), so I definitely empathize with you. If you've put on a bit of weight, the key is to look for clothes that are cut *straight* more than cut with an especially small bust. If curvy hourglass women are complaining that the waist on something doesn't cut in enough, give it a try. I've had luck at J.Crew (although their dresses tend to be very nipped in the waist) and Nordstrom (many different brands of course, but my Gibson equestrian blazer is one of very few that doesn't look empty in the bust and I can actually button it).

How about trying knits, flowy or drapey tops where the bust size really doesn't matter? I know that's probably not what you want to wear all of the time, but they might be a nice alternative. In my wardrobe, I can think of a few tops that would work regardless of bust size- batwing top, drapey cowl neck, etc..

I second H&M. At Talbot's and BR, I generally wear a 0 petite in tailored jackets. At H&M, I recently bought one that is a size 4, and it is none too large.

Thanks again tanya. You must be wondering why I keep asking questions about sizing. I just realized that about 80% of my wardrobe has been heavily tailored. I even alter my shoes! I've spent hundreds of dollars on tailoring this year. The bust size issue is by far my biggest problem. Being petite and having a short torso is only a small problem for me, but nothing I buy, other than tees, wouldn't benefit by being taken in at the bust. BTW, I feel quite sure of my bra size, but even if im wrong, it doesn't change the fact most tops are far to big in the bust for me Padding helps, but many people don't realize that the larger you are the more padding you can wear before it begins to look strange and unnatural. I wish those "add 2 cup sizes" bras actually looked good, aargh! They're much more appropriate for women with small c-cups who want to upgrade to stripper boobs. OK, im done pointlessly ranting now

First, have you had a bra fitting recently, at a real specialty place, not VS or anything similar? Most women wear a wrong bra size. Wearing the right size helps more than anything else, especially if the bras are lightly lined.

I find Europeand brands to be cut smaller everywhere, especially in the chest. So try H&M, Zara, Mango, French Connection, Benetton etc.

I have found that Asian clothing is often much smaller in the bust than comparable american sizes. Banana republic petites, other than being cut shorter, are also cut smaller in the bust then their regular clothes. Other than that, I don't know where to get shirts that are cut unusually small in the bust, especially now that I've put on almost 10 lbs. I'm still relatively thin, but my bust measurement has literally not changed at all as I've put on that weight, while my waist has grown by 2 inches. While that may not seem like a lot, it means that shirts that fit me in the waist are now way too large in the bust. That has always been true, but always becomes a much bigger problem whenever I put on a few pounds. I wear small or even xsmall tops, and I wear a 34aa bra.
