Thanks, Liz and Jenn. I see what you mean about sometimes wanting a boost. As much as I appreciate the comments on short shorts and skinny straps, I might've just slunk away if they hadn't come in the midst of generally encouraging comments. (And I'm not so sure I'm going to give them up, but am glad to have a feel for the range of responses people irl may have if I wear them). I have the feeling that Angie may have carefully chosen one thing to compliment, but not have been terribly thrilled by the whole effect. That's smart of her, probably characteristically so.

If you want clear feedback on whether something is or isn't working, you'll need to ask for it. You'll see sometimes people will ask, "This seems off to me, but I'm not sure why" or "I need help figuring out proportions. Here's two options I'm thinking of. Which is best?" Or, "I'm wondering about this outfit and am not sure it is best for me. How would you change it to make it better?" Those kinds of question will get you clear and helpful answers. If you just say, "Here is what I wore," people will usually just give general encouragement or very mild suggestions. It's not patronizing, it's just the awareness that sometimes people simply want to share what they wore and aren't looking to be given lots of advice.

Yes, people will say something if you ask for honest feedback. Sometimes, we just need encouragement and an ego boost, though, and that's okay too. In general, folks here are kind and compassionate with feedback and free with compliments.

Thanks Smittie. I haven't been on my laptop since starting it, and generally try to reserve it for work/keep the phone & iPad for play, so will probably only use the finds feature when there's a strong reason for it.

Jenn, thanks for coming back to say that! I just hope I don't annoy people with goofy ideas, or get patronizing pats on the head /eye roll behind my back. (Then again, I got clear responses on a certain issue with a top and dress last week, so should probably trust that people will say something). This has been a welcoming group. I don't want to wear that out!

The lighting is often better in the Find, and you get a more detailed view, which is helpful when the selfie doesn't capture those things.

Did you manage to figure out the Finds?

Back to say: don't be intimidated by people who seem certain of themselves and their style. There's little doubt that certainty only came with a lot of soul-searching, questioning, and experimentation!

Do both! Finds can help to visualize your wardrobe and shopping plans, but the ones for current items also give interested folks a way to purchase the same piece. Often, they use YLF's affiliate links, so a small percentage of the sale helps support the site.

Thanks Jenn. It sounds like "finds" would have been a better way to post the items I was considering for a recent event that YLF members helped me with, because then people could see the photos without needing to click through a link first.
I have recently bought a couple things I really like without knowing how to style them/what to wear them with. Should I post them as "finds" to ask for suggestions, or is it better to post pix of me wearing them with a few different options? Everyone here seems so certain of themselves and where they're going fashion-wise!

I still haven't figured out how the "Finds" page works. I thought it was cool stuff Angie had come across, then saw someone say she'd posted something there for someone else. I can't figure out how to post there.
My latest discovery is that the "back-up" dress I paid $82 for has now come down to near $50. I know the Rack doesn't do price adjustments, but I might try to buy it again and return this one. I don't have a need for it, just really like it. The sensible thing would be to return it and forget it.
