Thistle, I meant to reply on your thread. It took me stepping back and stopping shopping for a while to know what I wanted (direction, fit, colors) and needed. I'd been shopping up such a frenzy I didn't really think before buying. It was a hard exercise but I have a lot of hope these items will really work hard for me. If you can, take a break. Wear what you have. Then analyze and make your list (ps totally on Team List with you and this is my first time clothes shopping with a list and purpose)

E, yes, this is actually less color than I'm used to, but I see the tees being used as layering pieces for several months of the year so I can get some color in my outfits that way. I also really enjoyed the zip sweater color (oatmeal) with dark denim. I'm experimenting with more earthy tones here but with the metallic sheen it still feels like me. And yes for the red! My favorite color!

Stays fit, yes, I've been doing some pulling back and analyzing. Hopefully it's paying off. I basically didn't shop between mid Aug and now. I've gone to a dept store twice but left without anything. When I finally went back on Fri I did buy two items I had been looking at - the booties and the field jacket. It felt funny to go and not buy but I'm glad I did. Plus by having patience I got them on sale. Good luck and let us know how things are going. I know you've been in a process to revamp your wardrobe so it might not be time yet to be able to do lots of planning and analysis beforehand.

Angie, thanks!! I'm flattered you think it is a nice haul. Looking forward to the next leg in my personal style journey thanks to you and the lovely ladies of YLF.

Wow, that's an amazing shopping haul, and everything you purchased looks great.. Did you know in advance what you were looking for? I assume that's what " think before you buy "
means. Would you be willing to share how you decided what you needed/wanted? Did you do any particular assessment?

I'm glad your shopping expedition proved so useful! The colours of the finds all look so soothing, and then there's that fun pop of red. :D

And isn't linen addictive? Especially in warm climates. Yum!

Laura, thanks. Wearing what I own made me realize I had plenty of fitted tees, but hadn't embraced or found my perfect fluid fit tees. I'm hoping these fit the bill. I hesitate bc they all have a little bit of sheen/shine, but I remembered the old saying from What Not to Wear: color, pattern, texture and shine.

Suz, thanks! I'm nervous to make shopping mistakes now, but I know they're inevitable. I had on Kut BFs the day I went shopping and they all semi tucked easily, so I'm hoping I can wear them alone in hotter weather or layered under a blazer or jacket when it's cooler. I like that they're lightweight and fluid. So far I've only worn the boots (need an insole but first outing was fine, no blisters or pain) and the zipper shoulder sweater. I feared the sweater would be SSB but it isn't, somehow. Another BR top I tried on WAS, and it was clear there was a difference. I guess the sweater is more oatmeal and I've got lowlights in my hair now, so that could make a difference. I'll keep you posted on how the items pan out. Crossing fingers. Oh, and I'm wearing the field jacket now - today is it's first outing and so far, it's great. Love the fit, it's washable, and the hardware is good quality. Even the inside collar has a nice fuzzy fabric. The little details make it really nice. Thanks again for weighing in.

TG, well, to be honest, I don't know. They don't seem really wrinkly and I am not a RATE dresser, so my gut reaction is that they're going to be fine. They're not stiff linen, and I didn't even realize they WERE linen until I checked the tags.

I finally went shopping, after a LONG hiatus (mid-Aug, most likely a lifetime record for me, haha).

I am SO glad I took the break to really assess my needs, wants, wardrobe holes, etc.

I timed my shopping with some local sales; pricing is not the same here as in the US with the constant 30-50% off. I was lucky to get the 30% off I got, and I'm pleased I had the patience to wait and items were still available in my size.

In general, I've added one blazer, two jackets, two sweaters and three upgraded fluid tees. I'm also introducing a few warmer tones into my wardrobe and cognac booties to compliment them. I finally think I'm getting the hang of this "think before you buy" plan ;)

My finds:
1. Popcorn pullover, BR. Super soft, good sleeve length for me. Thinking of trying it layered with a white or chambray shirt underneath.
2. Heritage "touch of cashmere" sweater, BR. Already worn twice. Gold zipper detail at the shoulder adds a little luxe. Good length. Good color with new boots.
3. Slubbed shine tee, BR. Finally getting the hang of the fluid fits. Nice cool silver color.
4. Heritage linen double V tee, BR. Where has linen been my whole life? LOVING THIS!
5. Foil linen tee, BR. Another linen addition. Rocking my world.
6. Field Jacket, BR. Third time's a charm (this was the third time I went to the store, twice before to "check it out" and finally bought it this time around).
7. Blazer, Zara. Wasn't sure how to style this but now with the BR tees and other suggestions from an earlier thread, I'm excited to add this to my collection. It will go nicely with the new boots, too.
8. Jacket, Zara. Did not intend to buy this, but (A) I heart red and (B) I needed more light/med weight jackets and this fit the bill perfectly.
9. (photo, not find) Rose Noire boots, local dept store. I himmed and hawwed on these, but I'm glad I pulled the trigger. Already worn and can tell I'm gonna love them.

Styling suggestions, comments, and critiques always welcome!
