:D Thank you, Angie! Hmm, not sure on essential tops. The cardigans are for warmth primarily; I would not wear them as much if it weren't for A/C drafts on my goose-pimply arms. They are essential to make an outfit in those situations, since they fit the silhouette perfectly and I have enough colors to "go" with whatever outfit I choose to wear. Now, I do have a white tee and a striped navy tee that are occasionally chosen to pull together the outfit... maybe they're essentials at that time, but overall hardly workhorses.

I love that set! The cardigan lines are my absolute favorite, and the two together are terrific. I can't wait to see you wear them.

Thank you, Janet! I really love the rose gold shoes, especially the sandals. I've been able to wear them a couple times in the last few weeks. They're a lovely soft metallic, and a better fit for my foot than the unisex Saltwater sandals.

It's so interesting to see others' essentials. I don't think my list overlaps with yours much, except for grey boots. Your rose gold shoes are so lovely.

YOU NAILED IT, Ginger. WELL DONE.

Do you not have an essential top to go with your skirts - or do you rely heavily on your essential cardigans?

Again, very nicely done.

p.s. Look what I just ordered because I keep on thinking about the twinset.

I will need to post some more WIW's! My statements are much more statement-y than this.

Rachy, I wear LOTS of statements. It's rare for me to have a non-statement outfit. I'm more likely to wear multiple statements.

Good call, Jenn. Those toe shoe flats are statements, not essentials. I got caught up in the color thing. But the others really are essentials. When I want a neutral flat, I want it to be *interesting*... hence the lack of ordinary ballet flats (and my difficulty finding navy, since I'm picky).

Legwear, though... it's virtually always paired with a statement outfit, either a dress, or a top and skirt. I do not want eyes to go to my legwear first; I just don't want my legs and feet to fade away into darkness. I also don't like the high contrast of black tights with lighter colored dress/skirt.

I'm rather subdued today. I'm wearing the black turtleneck and blue
dress in the finds, with the dark-background floral tights and maroon
chunky t-strap pumps. The floral tights aren't the statement; it's the
dress against the black, and my shoes ditto.

I wear a LOT of dresses. I can think of very few dresses I have that are NOT statements... and to be honest, I can't think of a true non-statement dress I've managed to wear recently. These two ASOS dresses in Finds are perilously close to non-statement for me, despite the color, since they are darker and have so little detailing. I tend to style them with flashier jewelry and non-black leg- and foot-wear. The Modcloth dress is one of my favorites, and I tend to pair it with black, gray, or rose gold depending on the weather and my mood. The dress is still always the statement.

Liz, good call to combine the leg coverings. I'm not sure the value of dividing up the skirts, though. They're all essentials, and not statements for me (even the black quilted one).

It really is interesting, Style Fan! There is SO much variation.

Jenn's comment about your tights is interesting. They do add interest to your outfits.
Everyone's lists are very helpful. I am really getting to know their style.

If you wanted, you could define your skirts: a-line or circle skirts. That's a distinct silhouette.

You could also combine your "leg covering" category: dark leggings and jeggings.

I am just loving how everyone's essentials both overlap and differ!

I would argue that your tights here are either basics or statements that you use to bring interest to outfits. I also bet that you can isolate some essential flats from statements. The lace-up ankle ones, in particular, look statement-y to me.

This seems pretty good to me. How do statements fit in with your dressing ways? Do you feel you go for all essentials dressing more or do you often include a statement?

I actually started this list on Thursday, but my browser was naughty and I lost it. I'm just now getting back to it, and starting with Angie's suggestions.

Waist-length, long-sleeve cardigans in black, white, gray, and various colors. These are essential wearing over short-sleeve anything in summer at work.

Flat neutral shoes, in black, white, and rose gold metallic or blush. I have quite a few; this is whittled down to what I know I will keep. I'm shopping for navy ones as well.

Black and gray boots. The gray have really made a lot of outfits come together this year by virtue of not being black.

Skirts in black, white, and navy. I have more than what is in Finds, and I wear them all. All lengths in winter, knee or midi in summer.

Leggings in black or navy. The NAS Spanx faux leather ones have seen a lot of wear this winter. I have fleece-lined navy that I also wear frequently, though rarely for work.

Skorts in summer. I live in these when not at work or church. I want to upgrade to less gear-ish shorts, but it will depend very much on what size I am and what's available.

Dark patterned/sheer tights. Angie may banish these to the "basics" category, but I would argue that they're an essential in cool weather. I don't like only black on my legs, so I now have 4-5 options in the gray/black family, plus a dark floral with burgundy and green that's a lot more subtle than it sounds.

Jeggings. My AE X-Long hi-rise leggings from 2015, which are made no more. But they bring together a lot of casual outfits.

How is that for a first try? It seems pretty long.
