Thanks everyone!

With sizing I think some of the newer more "hip" brands probably make their sizing on the small side on purpose. I've ordered things from a few places in recent years, the worst one was a pair of jeans from Nudie which was a 29 waist (I currently, and back then had either 28.5-29 waist) the hips should have been what mine were and seriously at my current weight I can barely get a leg in. I'd have to lose like 3kg and even then they'd still be too small.
I have a pair of Cos trousers and they fit just fine and my denham Jeans I had before I was pregnant and part way through my first pregnancy fit fine. I am about the same weight as pre-pregnancy but perhaps my body shape changed in some way. I ordered the size up (28) from what I had a few years back (27) based on my actual measurements and was a bit tight though I think I'd fit my regular size (29) now so i'll give that a go. Every time I order something I check my exact measurements against their guides and each time they end up being too tight its not even that I'm pulling the tape measure too tight either as its loose enough to move around and for me to breathe.

Perhaps very old or classic brands might have better sizing.

As for Japanese sizing, yes it is much smaller and i'd be XL or XXL here but I feel like some of the western brands are starting to match what i'd be in Japan and I was always a S-M in the UK. Its a little disheartening. My sister said she felt the same that the sizes have changed but it really could just be that we are old now.

Echoing the thoughtful responses already given, I would keep searching for the right trousers. The insubstantial, light colored fabric and cut of the trousers do you no justice. Trousers are by far and away the most difficult item of clothing to get right.

Do you think they changed the sizing cause you bought them in Japan? I looked at Asian sizes and I'd be XL or 2X- though M here in the US.

I like the espadrilles but would keep looking with the pants. With light colors I go with looser fits in general.

France also differs from what is known as EU size. I wonder if Cezane is using French or EU sizing? I just had a look at their sizing chart and I see UK 12 overlaps with M and L. Tricky!

UK don't use the same, they use like 6,8,10,12 etc. French and Italian sizes are different, I think the French Ines are the same as the rest of europe or at least most similar to Italian ones. I think i'm a 12 in UK, 40 in France and 46 I think in Italian, can't quite remember my Italian size.

Just a reminder that French sizing (numbers) are different to European which are also different to UK, and Italian. Check out a sizing table on the net to get an idea. So confusing otherwise. I only realised this when I moved to Europe. South African sizes are the same as the UK, and tend to be bigger. Eg, a Euro 38 vs French 38 vs UK 38 - all different! Love the shoes!

Thank you Gillian! Very helpful. This one also looks a bit tight on the behind maybe but only 1% elastane so might be okay plus pockets.

Or maybe this one. I have a feeling though that they are squeezing the models into jeans a size too small. Or they are cut on the small side...

I don’t think the pants fit you poorly, I think the material is just too light and thin. If they were in black or navy for example they’d look pretty classic. For the jeans, I love the fit of the straight legs, but I worry that you might find the rear view too revealing due to the lack of pockets. Maybe a similar pair but with pockets on the back? I find that jeans with no back pockets are usually cut to show off your bum specifically. The espadrilles look great. You have great legs for shoes with ankle ties!

Thanks everyone! Back they go! I'm going to order a pair of jeans that are straight legged but by the look on the model they are also tight round the bum, I hope the fabric is more substantial this time...what do you think to these? There looks to be more room on the thighs at least.

The espadrilles are super cute! I'd definitely keep those.

I'm going to agree with those above who've said to try some different pants and send this pair back. I have tried on and rejected *so many* pants and jeans that are too tight and clingy through the hips and thighs (and calves!). I've learned the hard way that I'll be uncomfortable and self-conscious wearing them, so back they go. It can be hard to tell with online shopping how substantial a fabric will be. The rule of thumb I learned here (for pants made of woven fabrics like twill and denim) is to look for 2% or less spandex/elastane. Any higher and there's a good chance the pants will have a clingy, legging-like fit.

You have mile-long legs and would look amazing, I think, in straight-leg or wide-leg styles, whether cropped or full length. Keep experimenting, and don't fret too much about the size on the tags; sizing is wildly inconsistent these days so it really means very little. :)

I second what Jules and Janet said. For a curated wardrobe, you can do better. These "pants" are popular lately, but they are actually more of a legging than a pant, so the bodycon aspect will not go away in a size up; they will simply look ill-fitting. It is the style that needs to change, IMO, not the size. That said, you have a fabulous figure, and there are probably many styles that will tick ALL the boxes for you.

As everyone has said, it's the cut (basically a skinny cut pant, like a skinny jean) plus the light color plus the lightweight fabric that equal an unforgiving fit. If you are looking to build a tight, cohesive wardrobe of high-quality, versatile pieces, I don't think these pants have earned their place. They are just not worthy!

Like Janet, i find this style of pant very unforgiving, and hard to fit...its not a legging but the top of the pant tends to give that kind of fit...it needs to be exact in the fit to look good, which for me generally needs a lot of tailoring...
anyway, I’d pass, onward and upward

Stretchy pants in light colours are tricky in general. It’s not about your body or sizing up, it’s a design/fabrication issue IMHO. I understand about the butt cheek issue, I feel the same in Canada. It’s too revealing in the sense of what I call ‘too much information’ - it’s not that I feel overly sexual in these types of clothes, it’s that I don’t feel properly clothed because to much of my body is being revealed. If that makes any sense at all!!!

The shoes are really cute!

The pants are ok, but I think you can do better. I think this style and fabric are unforgiving, and you have a great shape, but I don’t think sizing up will have the intended effect. The combination of a light color, thin fabric, and close fit will definitely make VPL a factor. If you want a tightly curated wardrobe, I would take the effort to continue your trouser search to find some that are truly comfortable, flattering and versatile without the use of shapewear or only being able to wear them with longer tops.

How do you plan to style these pants? This is a style that I personally would wear with bum-covering (or nearly so) tops or toppers, so the bum silhouette would be hidden.

If you plan to wear these with tucked or shorter tops, then I might look for a more substantial fabrication. And maybe a more structured cut, too? — it looks like these are pull-on, though I can’t tell for certain.

They look more like a legging than a pant. It is interesting that the back is only shown once (in black) on the website. And is usually shown sitting or with a long topper. If that’s not how you think you will wear them, I am not sure if sizing up would make a big difference.

Don't worry about the size, it's a just a number that varies from brand to brand. The fit of these trousers is a bit tight, I would try the next size up and take it in at the waist, like unframped said.

What is the fabric composition? I wonder it is a material that could stretch with time.

Great legs - looks so pretty in new sandals and pants ( I like the fit as it is with some longer flow-y cardigans or boyfriend jackets - and the right shape wear of course ).
Sizing up may work or not - alterations are a good possibility with skilled seamstress.

Its not really the panty line that bothers me, more that for want of a better word, it shows my bum crack haha. I dont mind the "uni-bum" look so can be tight round that area but I really dislike if it completely follows the shape of my bottom and like you can see my two distinct bum cheeks. Its just way too revealing in my mind for Japan. Probably in the UK I wouldn't have too much of a problem. I think the right underwear actually does help with that so maybe a size up might work. But yeah the fabric is pretty thin.

Thanks everyone! Its so depressing that so far i've only managed to keep 2 pairs of shoes out of everything i've tried. This is going to take forever to build a wardrobe. I'll be looking for replacements for my first items before i've finished finding everything.

Cute pants!

I would try a size up, because I think in this size they look a little tight. I can empathize with the problem of getting a decent fit in the waist and finding that I have no wiggle room in the bum! As others have pointed out, you can always get the waist taken in a bit.

When I am struggling with panty lines, I sometimes wear thin lacy underwear, usually in a cut that has less material in back (tanga, bikini, thong).

Unfrumped thats exactly it. Maybe the material just isn't thick enough to work...i'd have expected and preferred thicker material honestly. I'm probably not going to size up as I don't think it would fix the issues properly anyway. Just leave it to the youngsters. I've got another couple of things coming from the same store in a different order, so i'm wondering what the fit will be like. The same size bottoms but completely different style, more forgiving on the legs.

First of all - you have great, long legs!
Pants, well, borderline on too tight to my eye but it’s a personal preference. I think you should try a size up to get more relaxed look.
