I’ve received the items and I’m mostly happy with them. The blouse is a dolman sleeve button down and I absolutely love the shirt pattern and fabric. The sleeves are soft enough that they fit underneath just about anything without poking up in a funny way. And I’m enjoying having a white shirt “on tap” always available as a nice looking option.

The dress is somewhat less successful. As I had feared it’s more of a petite small than a regular small, and I’m kind of between the two in general. In this case the petite small is somewhat less attractive in how it sits on me, but it’s still a super comfortable house dress ( lounge clothing) and I’ve worn it for an hour or two on most evenings before I change into night clothes.

Sorry to hear about the shingles!

A couple of my favorite dresses are fit-n-flares/skater dresses bought while recovering from abdominal surgery. I couldn’t stand a waistband. Maybe you will also find something you like after recovery too.

Thanks. I was mostly stacking two same cut jjill tanks or two Talbots tanks to get modesty in front and not have any seams directly on the sore spots. The dress was good at home, even with the shingles, but not in public.

Oh man, so sorry to hear about the shingles, 3style. Yes, that totally makes sense that something like that would interrupt your usual dressing habits and evaluation of new items. In your situation I think I'd take the leap and duplicate also. I hope it turns out well!

I decided to double check what else I could get at Nordstrom. Well, turns out that in terms of parameters which matter to me, the most similar dress is ten times the price, and I don’t think I’d find it as useful. So I ordered one more.

And as far as the top, the most similar one was twenty times the price! Furthermore, it’s been a HEWI for nearly 30 years! I guess I wasn’t looking in the right price bracket, yet even the best white button down shirt that is so expensive that I’m afraid to put it on so as not to spill on it becomes “closet wear” and is not useful. So I decided to go all in and get 4 more! I’ve always wanted to be a white button down kind of dresser, but haven’t had much luck for a very very long time, perhaps partially because tucking has re-emerged after a long hiatus.

Sorry about the shingles - really painful and unpleasant.

I probably would risk it - if there is a manufacturing "fault"I think you would still be covered ie seams, marks etc - but maybe not slight size discrepancies.

Good luck!!

SarahD8,
There are about 100 reasons why this happened during this particular month. The most relevant is quite personal. I came down with shingles on my shoulder and couldn’t wear a bra for two weeks. This put rather a crimp in my style.

If you've owned these items for a month and have not yet washed them (and are just wearing the top for the first time today), do you really need duplicates?

I just purchased a duplicate dress ( linen stripes in my favorite colors) it was on clearance for song.yay.
I did this last year with a denim dress from Talbots also and was so glad as One was in wash and one was available for wear.
Enjoy your finds!

Barbara Diane, I’m not concerned about washing machine resilience with the dress, because 100% cotton behaves reliably. With the top, it’s 60% cotton 40% modal, so I don’t expect it to be outstandingly robust, which is part of why I want to get multiples. I’m too prone to staining clothing to opt for top quality white tops.

So no, I’m not concerned about laundry. I’m just concerned that the final sale ones might be just slightly defective or especially that they are cut significantly smaller or larger than the ones to which they ought to be identical.

Poorly sewn seams and other mistakes can be found in things at full price or on final sale, but I understand your concern at not being able to return them.

Can you order them to be picked up in store? Even if they are already paid for, I would think that if you opened them right there, found they were defective, and asked for a refund on the spot, they would be very likely to do it.

Well, I’m just coming off of buying Ann Taylor pants in navy which fit perfectly and then trading them for what I hoped more useful for my wardrobe black pants. Then, only to find the black ones were a whole size bigger even though they were labeled the same size.

I returned the black ones to the store on Saturday, and I was not able to convince the sales associate that I had selected the right pants cut (curvy). I had an awkward experience. I actually had to scamper away from the sales associate when she went to look elsewhere, because I couldn’t get through to her that I didn’t want the “straight “ cut, I just wanted a different pair of black curvy pants. I wanted either a different copy of the same size pants or a size down.

I’m embarrassed just saying it: it’s a bit like hanging up on telemarketers. You have to do it but they know it doesn’t feel good to be rude.

Katerina, I’m not aware of any such rules in the USA for retailers. As far as I know, if the vendor doesn’t take responsibility, my only recourse would be to get the credit card company involved in getting me a refund for returning defective merchandise.

3style, is the risk not being able to return the items when they are on final sale?

Here, we have a legislation according to which all online purchases (from professional shops) can be regretted within 2 weeks, even the items that are on final sale. So I have not had this problem. I frequently duplicate my wardrobe essentials, such as black silk blouses, black or white trousers, good Chelsea boots etc. Never had problems with size or quality variations...

About a month ago I bought a cotton summer dress and a cotton summer white short sleeve button down which correctly fits my chest and shoulders and waist from Lucky. The exact style for these two items were HEWI for me, but I didn’t immediately duplicate because I prefer to test drive and wash before I duplicate. I’ve worn the dress but haven’t washed it yet, and I’m wearing the top today to test it further, and I’m very happy with it. But again have not yet washed it.

Now they are on final sale. As long as the duplicates are the same exact size, new condition and quality control standards, I’d have absolutely no problem with buying several more copies of the top and one more copy of the dress.... I have bought final sale from TheRealReal, but their whole sales pitch is that they only stock individually inspected items.

Have folks been happy with online “final sales” purchase of duplicates?
