I did wear almost nothing but leggings and tunics immediately before and after DS was born, about 6 months on either end, but I was so, so glad once I fit back into real jeans and trousers. His first overnight was when he was about 6 months old. We didn't go far, of course, but by starting early we've been able to establish routines and protocols that make it somewhat less daunting. It's all changing now that he likes to walk on his own. We've been learning to canoe camp, in order to carry more stuff, avoid some of the traffic and crowds of popular trails (we live on the Appalachian Trail corridor near the White Mountains, so hiking trails here are very busy), and so that DS isn't stuck on my back for days at a time. Soon, of course, he'll be outpacing us. ;)</p> <p>Those rust-colored Madewell pants are turning out to be real winners. Not nearly as difficult for me to style as I'd anticipated, since they work well with black, white, and navy. Uniqlo had a bunch of really cute designs of hers earlier in the spring; not sure if they are still in stock. They were part of the UT collection, not Sprz.&nbsp;</p> <p>Sterling, yes -- we average about 12.5 miles a day -- this time it's 2 ten-mile days and 2 fifteen-mile days, but it all depends on where our campsites are. We used to go much faster, before we had a child to carry. DS rides on my back for part of the day, and walks when the terrain isn't challenging. DH carries most of the gear, food and water, which weighs just a bit more than a preschooler but doesn't wiggle around as much. You've seen all this stuff before. ;)</p> <p>My clothes took a beating this week. Monday's outfit got sardine vomit (not mine, DS's -- super gross) on it, and Wednesday I was used as a napkin after a chocolate cupcake. Oh, and Tuesday I ended up pretty soggy after an impromptu boat trip -- now I remember why I don't like to wear cotton to the beach!</p> <p>Still not sure what I'll wear for DH's birthday party tonight, because it's COLD -- too cold for the sundress. Last photo shows the outfit planned. I guess I could try Angie's dress-over-pants formula, but I think all my pants are too relaxed/bulky for that. I may just swap in a warmer dress... </p>
