JAileen and Karie, because of the Gulf Stream, the climate of Northern Norway is different from that of Alaska. This explains the lack of snow at the North Cape this time of the year.

"Although the North Cape is located at the northernmost tip of Europe, it has a subarctic climate, thanks to the Gulf Stream. The average temperature in summer is 10 degrees Celsius, while temperatures may reach 25 degrees Celsius at the hottest. In winter, the average temperature is about minus 3 degrees Celsius." (https://www.visitnorway.com/pl.....orth-cape/)

Oh Robin, your upcoming trip sounds fabulous! My only advice is to pack a little bit of everything and don't forget a rain jacket. I've only ever been to London twice, and both times only to go from Heathrow to the cruise port in Southampton, once in September and once in June, and both times the weather was exactly the same - cool and rainy. One of these times, though, I want to spend some additional days in London and see some of the famous sights.
KKards, I'm in NY but right near the border of Mass. and VT. I love the New England states, and I love dressing for that breezy coastal climate!

Very timely post for me as I'm going on a 12 day British Isles cruise in August and trying to figure out what to pack. With additional days in London, it will be the longest vacation I've ever taken and I am struggling with what to bring.

Your pictures are wonderful! The Gap pants are my favorite.

The lobster skirt. Another New England girl who wants to claim that skirt! So good.
And the delirium pants are just so summer! Love a good seersucker for the hot weather
And I hear you on dressing for the heat and the AC. I almost always have a scarf/shawl with me

Thank you everyone! Sloper and Runcarla, those Gap baggies ARE The Bomb - easily my favorite pants of the summer.
Jamie, that's so true about flattery - everyone has their own views on it, and we absolutely have to like it on ourselves or it won't get worn.
Janet and Olive Green, fun, colorful and a sense of humor are words I try to live by, and it's great to hear that that is coming through in how I dress.
Suz (Boston roomie!), J Crew just knows what we like, don't they? That skirt of yours looks beautiful, and yes, the lobster skirt will have to get clawed from me (pun intended) upon my demise!
Angie, wow, "Killer!" I'll be wearing that lobster skirt every day now! And btw, your recommendation last year on the Bose noise cancelling headphones for plane travel was spot on. I don't fly without them now, they're fantastic.
Lisa, I just bought a pair of turquoise pants, I will have to try them with the fuchsia top. That color combination might not have occurred to me, Im glad you mentioned it.
Unfrumped, those EB shirts are favorites, I have three that I purchased specifically for travel last year. They wash, wear, and pack well and the sleeves can be tabbed up when it's hot.
Cookie, I grew up at the Jersey shore, and one of my best memories is eating fresh lobster just caught off the coast!
Cat2, "delirium pants!" YES! They shall forever be referred to as that by me!
JAileen, yes, the Top of the World had nothing more than a few patches of snow here and there, but there were plenty of snow capped mountains in other parts of Norway.
Carol, I hear you about travel photos and figure flattery. It does make me think twice about what I'm wearing.
Lise, Lynne, Kellygirl, and Kate, thank you for your kind words!

Looks like a super trip! I don't see anything unflattering here, but do think flattery is in the eye of the beholder and we are all assessing with our own value system. I wear tons of things that others would not want to wear because of their own flattery views but try not to wear things that I don't like on myself.

Karie, I love the lobster skirt -- it is perfect for you! I do not see it as unflattering on you in the least. Your outfits with that skirt are my favourites, too!

But I do know your feeling...my old J. Crew skirt has gathers coming from the waist and I always imagine it is unlattering, too, but I adore the fabric and print and love that it is part of a two piece dress, and I don't think it will be easy to claw it from my hands at my demise....I just love it! Despite always wondering. whether it does my shape any favours.

Amazing trip photos! That water looks so clear. And you look prepared for the weather, comfortable and very jazzy with your fun hair. I actually love the GAP baggy pants...

I try not to bring *extra* luggage on trips, but that doesn't mean I travel carry on, LOL I hear you on the wide legs -- how much more space they take up in a bag! But I tend to bring one pair anyway, at least. Because I love them.

I'm another who LOVES the lobster skirt, Karie! It's KILLER. Outfits #3 to #5 are fably flattering, and please don't think otherwise! Like Kelly, it's my favourite set of outfits from this group :)

Your "delirium pants" as cat2 puts it are smashing too!

The Gap pants are fashion forward in the oversized cut, and create a great juxtaposition with your charming curly bob and signature pink streak! The polka dot top is adorable.

Stunning pics! Glad you and hubs had a magical northern holiday. Now happily reunited with your pups!

Your lobster skirt is pure awesomeness! You may think your outfits are not flattering, but I think you look great in all of them. As for me giving up on figure flattery, when I wore my monster down coat in Japan this past winter, and someone said I looked like an NFL coach on the sidelines, well, I guess I prioritized warmth.

It’s interesting that your picture of the top of the world has no snow. Several years ago we were in Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow, AK) around the summer solstice and there was a lot of snow - we wore knee high neoprene boots everyday. Both places are at just about the same latitude. It must have to do with ocean currents.

I think those clothes flatter you well, because of simple shapes and proportions. But I know what you mean--sometimes I will get an item for a print, etc. that is not the most flattering. In fact, I am dying to get a prairie skirt right now (just a big, circular calico maxi skirt) because I saw someone do a good outfit with Converse and a prairie skirt.

In traveling I am trying to be a bit better about figure flattery, actually. And this is because a lot of photos tend to be taken.

It has been super hot here the past few days (like 100 degrees hot) so while trying to stay as cool as possible outside, I still need a jacket for that indoor arctic air conditioning.
Pics 1 - 6 are WIW this past week (RIP skirt/Macy's/J Crew/J Crew Factory/Old Navy). The skirt in #3-5 is my favorite fun skirt; it's not very figure flattering but I just don't care as I love the print and it's oh so comfortable and cute. The pants in pic 6 are from some internet shop - I never purchase form random internet shops but in my defense, I had just gotten off an 8 hour flight, was waiting on a connecting flight (five hours plus a 1 1/2 hour delay) so I was delirious and very tired, a bad combination then shopping!

Pics 7-17 are wiw on our recent cruise to Norway.
#7 was my travel outfit for the 8 hour flight to London. Loft sweatshirt (tee shirt underneath in case it was warm on the plane) and my favorite Old Navy somewhat dressier sweatpants. My objective was comfy clothes so I could attempt to sleep on this overnight flight.
Pics 8 - 13 were what I wore to dinner on the ship (Macy's/Loft/BR/Eddie Bauer), and everything mixed and matched for multiple wears over the 12 days. The pants in 8,9,11 are slim fits, not skinnies. I almost never wear these except when traveling - I'm kind of off the slim fit style but these pack so well they always end up in my suitcase. This is where I really want to spice up my travel wardrobe I feel like I need more color and more style, not just clothes that pack well,
Pics 14-16 are wiw on sea days and scenic cruising days, and were my favorites of the cruise. Those Gap baggy pants are sublimely comfortable and entirely UN-figure flattering (when I turn sideways I look like I've walked off with bags carrying half the buffet, LOL), but I don't care! I am in love with them and ordered a second pair in a different color when I got home.
Pic 17 is wiw on a hike in Geiranger, Norway. This is typical of what I wore on other excursions as well; LL Bean pants, tee shirt or fleece, depending on the weather.
Pics 18-19 - Scenic pics, I brought my puffer (I brought a rain coat too) and paw print hat for cold days. I always bring a colorful hat so I can be easily identified in a crowd.
Pics 20 (a terrible selfie) and 21 - "The Top of the World" North Cape, the northernmost point In Europe
Pic 22 - The Seven Sisters Waterfall, and pics 23-24, scenic cruising.

Over to you - do you give up a little figure flattery in favor of prints/fits/whatever that you just plain love? And how about your travel wardrobe? Do you only bring items that pack well or do you say "the heck with it" and bring extra luggage?
