Patty I hear you on the high arch!! I don't think I own a single pair of shoes that touch the arch and properly support it. The first time I added an insole to one of my shoes and it DID touch? I freaked out because it just felt soooooo weird. High instep+high arch=shoe woes -_-

Funny you should bring this up! I have that exact same problem, along with a high instep. Some shoes fit really well and my arch touches the way it should, while others don't. On top of everything else, my left foot is a little longer than my right foot. Certain shoe brands fit me better than others, and those are the ones I generally stick to.

Kim--Not necessarily the arch but that whole part of the foot --there's like a finger's thickness between the ball of my foot and the shoe foot bed (arch area) in slanted shoes--it's annoying.
And don't ever measure by what ask/rant--I'm pretty useless on all things clothes/fit and need to ask questions.

I have very high arches (they NEVER touch the floor) and I don't think I've ever had a shoe (other than a gear type running shoe) actually touch my arch when I am wearing it. Even in sandals, or flats (ballerina, etc.) my arch shows. I thought it was normal fit! LOL Maybe I need to start looking at different types of shoes?? Hmmmmm....

My feet are flat and somewhat narrow, so they look like rectangular pancakes in shoes with no straps or side support near the arch like those very bare thong sandals. Not pretty.

In addition to the flat feet, I also have a very shallow instep and narrow heel/ankle, which means that there is often too much room around the back of my foot in closed shoes. Hence I can't wear things like ballet flats because they just pretty much fall off.

You are totally right, there is a diference in fitting depending how high your arch is. Mine is on the low arch type and I have a hard time with shoes that have pronounced arches in them because they hurt me when I walk.

Another one of my ridiculous questions no doubt.
I wonder--if people are long waisted and short waisted, long limbed/ short limbed--how bout long arched feet?
For laughs and giggles last week I tried on a bunch of summery wedged shoes and found that like with other heeled shoes my foot bones from heel to ball--the bendy place--doesn't sit flat in the shoe--trying different sizes. I am not high arched--pretty normal I believe. If I sit my foot flat in open back shoes (of correct size by fit) my heel hangs over the back and toes are short at the end. Maybe my idea of how shoes fit is wrong (duh!) but wonder about this fit thing. Ultimately nothing was comfortable in wedges.
