I remember hearing about these as a young teen, (a few years after the craze, I guess) and being horrified at the wastefulness. Born cheapskate apparently. Wait, let's put a more positive twist on it. Born environmentalist. There. I like that better.

Oh! I owned and wore paper dresses in the late 60s like the striped ones with the pockets. I took some for a summer in Europe in 1969 so that I'd have more room in my suitcase coming home. Unfortunately the weather was usually too cold and wet to wear them. The dresses actually were quite sturdy and got softer and nicer with wear. I even hand washed one and it was fine. I would buy one again for a casual summer trip.
Thank you for taking me back to some fun times.

My grandpa has a hysterical story about a neighborhood party that he and my grandma were invited to in the 60's when they first moved in. Long story short - the hostess wore a paper dress - apparently, one of the more flimsy variety - had a LOT of wine, and ended up sitting on my grandpa's head. (He made it very clear that he did NOT look up!)

Too funny! I was laughing out loud when I read the comment about cigarettes and barbecues! Never thought of that. Thanks for a fun read!

Oh, this reminded me of those disposable undies my Mum always suggested we wear on plane trips when I was young! Ill-fitting and scratchy, but at least didn't require laundering! (Then came the 'naughty' variety but we won't go there!)

Una's getting hot under the collar planning her summer trip to humid NYC. That started me thinking about paper dresses and found this fun article, with fab photos from another age ... the SPACE age!

Enjoy!
