Having work issues on top of it (especially ongoing) is really hard. I'm not working at the moment (doing contract work but this time of year is dead, nothing permanent yet) and the SO is considering making a job change because of some minor issues at work, but the decision itself has been really stressful and a months long process (I don't even want to see it if he moves!). </p> <p>Glad to see you back, and maybe YLF can help keep your mind off some things! In such a small company it was really hard to see so many people go. I left the company shortly after that for greener pastures. It went well with the rabbit, snapping turtle, cats, dogs... Three kids in the house and we all dragged home every stray we could find.</p> <p>Hope your work stress settles down. I would highly recommend the book Spontaneous Happiness by Andrew Weil for tips on managing stress. We might get one next time around, after the current hamster has gone. It's a very sweet hamster, but we're trying to talk my daughter into a pair of rats instead, because they're much more fun. And she plays with her hamster literally every day (and she's on her second one), so I'm not worried that she'd get the rats and forget about them after two weeks. </p> <p>Have you read The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents? It's one of my favourite books. I love them, I have two and would love to have a third. </p> <p>I have a good relationship with rodents. We actually have a Robo hamster, her name is Tinsel. She is kind of moody and a complete character. She can't stand people looking at her for too long, hilarious. She actually buries herself in, near the glass facing sideways, and keeps an eye open looking thru the glass. We call the move her " surveillance mode". So funny. She also catapults herself out of her wheel. She does not slow down, she just jumps. You can see her entire little self flying thru the air with the greatest of ease haha...</p> <p>Go for the rats. Our apartment complex finally got approval to start repairing the leaky roof (it turned out to be a huge, multi-thousand dollar job that they had to go out to bid for, which was a long process) so they are working on the roof this week, and then will start repairing our yucky ceiling. They have told me in writing that they will test for mold before they "close" the case. Maybe they are similar, although I don't think they are as intelligent as rats. But they were quite spunky and affectionate. </p>
