I found the shoulders in Burberry London too big compared to the bust area, & I have average shoulders. That is why I had to buy Prorsum. The raglan sleeved styles are roomier in shoulder & armhole than the set in sleeve.

Yes, Manolo Blanik shoes, I adore them, but my feet just cannot wear them. They run way too narrow for me. I'm sticking with Rockport, Aerosoles and Clarks for now instead. At least my wallet is happier!

Well I did stop wearing Ferragamos. They run narrow. And while I actually have narrow feet - I have bunions thru bad genes and dancing.

I should try to remember that. Because the "design your own" kind of rekindled my love for Vara's, even at the crazy-to-me doubling+ of the price.

I agree with umfrumped about how a certain brand gets pumped up in the public mind so that everyone thinks that they are "iconic" (whatever that term means). I've owned a couple of Burberry coats in the 70s and 80s, and, yes, they were nice coats--pricey but probably good value since each one lasted for almost a decade. I'm a bit more suspicious of the name these days, however, because of the company's decision in the late 80s to become a mass luxury brand.

My current coat is a Schneiders of Austria which is around the same price point as a Burberry. It's a marvel of tailoring and engineering--much lighter than a Burberry with beautiful cut and shape. But more importantly, it looks fabulous on me.

I honestly did like the one you posted, too! But if you didn't feel it, you didn't feel it. :T I do hear you on the strange sizing - I have narrow-ish shoulders in relation to my bust, and I have both a size 6 and 4, whereas I normally choose a size 2 in other brands.

Is it the hourglassy look you're after? Maybe keep an eye out for flared trenches.

I've totally given up on an iconic flat riding boot. Had to settle for lace-ups.

No anecdotes to share, but I think this is a great post about not staying stuck on a brand name but instead to figure out what kind of (trench, boots, jeans, whatever) "get you" . How to look like YOU at your best wearing said type of garment or outfit. Where the shoulders are right, there is a pleat or not, depending on our shape and style, the collar fits one's neckline, the length is right, the amount of ease or lack thereof is right for us, the color is flattering.Somewhere it is out there. Even though there are rashes and fevers of various brands and specific garments, I hope we keep evaluating them honestly according to the individual (okay, so there will still be different "eyes" for some styles and fits--that's okay) and not just do the lemming thing.

I've wanted to try certain footwear for trends and style, but when I find they don't "get my feet," I have to step back and see which of the modern styles DO get my feet and how to get the best look from them.

The one DIana tried looked KILLER on her! That's actually what made me realize I wanted to feel like she looked - and I didn't.

I think narrower shoulders will fit Burberry better, as the shoulders ALL run tight, but the hip fit can vary by style. I had to go up one or two sizes depending on style, but the ones that fit me best were the styles I liked least.

I honestly really liked that Burberry on you! But you have to like it, not me.

Sylvie, you're shaped kind of like me, right? Try the Buckingham style. That's the one she had me try on (I'm wearing it in one of the photos from when I met Una), and she said it's cut for more curvy bodies. I am actually only 1 size up in Burberry from my non-Burberry size (I think Una had to go up like 2 or 3 sizes, right?) so small shoulders might actually be a plus. It was slightly pulling at the hip (but still closed fine) but she said that they would move the button rather than sizing up. Apparently shoulder fit is most important, as Extrapetite alludes to as well.

Guess I have to give up on the Burberry dream too. There's no way a Burberry coat that fits my shoulders/torso is going to fit over my hips.

The Extrapetite blogger has had Burberry coats altered in store or by her tailor. Apparently in store alterations are free on full price merchandise.

http://www.extrapetite.com/search/label/Burberry

Una if it's your shoulders that are broad, perhaps you have a chance. They could tailor the body to fit you.

Ooh, we should all try to stop by Burberry for Shoptoberfest!

I think I posted before that I'm giving up on a Burberry trench for now. While I remain in love with the look and style, trying several of them on made me realize that Burberry doesn't get me. I'm short, broad-shouldered, waistless and have a stubby neck... all of which fight with the narrow, tailored, belted, collared look. UGH. At least I can move on.

Anyone else give up on some iconic fantasy item they adore?
