I took myself off the Gilt Groupe (RLL and one other one) emails -- too frustrating! Add in my (lack of) success with fit when ordering online, it just wasn't worth the effort to even check out the sales. . .and I haven't missed any of them one bit

Haha, Steph! Then it is official: My GG purchases are totally compulsive, but so far all have been loved (perhaps it is a win-win I can't score it all). :D

Thanks for the review of RLL. I always like to hear of quality customer service. I feel it is so rare.

I just took a look at the GG website, and it looks like they announce upcoming sales at least a day in advance on their site. So right now, it shows who will be on sale tomorrow (you have to scroll down a bit on the main page). My suggestion would be taking a look at that and then setting a reminder for yourself to go to the sale when it opens the next morning. It works for me with RLL, at least.

Heather, I have had luck with RLL. I have ordered a few things that just didn't work and returned them, but I have purchased things I have kept as well--mostly tights and a few baseball tee-shirts for my boyfriend, but that's because I can be difficult to fit and am notorious about ordering things only to have to return them. I have also found RLL customer service to be very nice. I ordered a Pink Tartan suit from them once, and the skirt fit but I needed one size smaller in the jacket. I called on the off-chance that they might have a jacket in my size in their warehouse (even though the sale was over), and they didn't, but the customer service woman gave me free shipping on my next order just because it was sad that I couldn't get the jacket in my size!

Steph, GG is the same. They send out an email about 20 minutes prior to the sale to alert you of the featured brands of the day (perhaps there is more advance notice that I am not aware of?) and then right at noon EST the frenzy begins.

Have you had luck on RLL?

I only recently signed up for GG, and haven't tried to purchase anything from them yet, so I can't speak to that. I do use ruelala, however. They always tell you in advance which brands they will be featuring the next day, and their sales always start at 11 a.m. (ET). So if they have a brand I love, I know to sign in at exactly 11 a.m. so that I can try to get the best items. Does GG do something similar or do they run their sales more randomly?

I have only scored three things on GG.com EVER. And I have been planted in front of my computer at Noon EST when the sale starts. *sigh* I think people just start putting everything cute in their baskets that is their size.

Anna has scored some serious winners from GG.

I have no advice only commiseration.

That is true, modgrl. Especially because the return policy seems iffy. I have yet to buy ANYTHING, for the reasons you've stated.

I've only gotten stuff for other people, not myself. I can't commit to buying something so pricey under so much pressure. A dress that costs hundreds of dollars is not an impulse purchase for me, and it seems like that's what they always have tons of.

I did purchase a bunch of harajuku lovers clothes for my kids and a record player for my husband. Those things were easy, the kids clothes are cute and cheap and I was searching for a record player anyway.

I've gotten some great stuff when I've actually been sitting in front of my computer at 9 am Pacific time. Occasionally the waitlist actually works, but often by then the allure of the product wears off.

I can definitely relate. The only time I've ever successfully scored anything at Gilt was when I was sitting in front of my computer the minute the sale started, and had set the filters on the sale to just select my size.

I don't know how people buy anything off these discount sites... it seems you have to get to the sale the moment it starts or you are out of luck. Today there was a Lafayette 148 sale and there is nothing left in my size at all. I just don't have the time or energy to constantly check back there, and I miss out on some great stuff.

Do you all use these sites, and how do you actually score anything?
