I guess for me weight change has been a big reason for editing out in the past 4 years since I started losing in 2019.
Otherwise it has tended to be items I don’t like as much as I thought I would. They are usually sort of “completer” items and I force myself to wear them 30 times then I donate them. I think getting tired of things, especially if you have worn them quite a lot, is an acceptable reason?
I think you did fantastically well if you wore everything in the last year? I didn’t manage that.

Your outfit looks great! I understand your dilemma - it would make sense to hold on to store various sizes due to your expected weight fluctuations but if you don't have room I think Angie's plan is the best idea.

I bought several pairs of pants in different styles because I thought I needed some variety in my pants/skirts. Turns out I was wrong. These "variety" items don't get worn much and now they are going out of style, or are not "me" now. However, like many of you, I hate clutter. I like Angie's suggestion. At times seldom worn items that I put on in the morning don't last more than an hour or two, and I remember why I don't wear them. And I change clothes.

By the way, #2 is fabulous!

Sometimes I get the refresher item(s) first, then decide what to discard/donate. Angie might call this “organized emotional shopping”.

Other times when I’m tired of my wardrobe I’ve set aside a mini capsule of the things I like most. Then I get some new items that are more similar to items in the mini capsule. Then I donate/discard some of the rest.

Actually none of this feels 100% guilt-free! But it feels acceptable to me as a decision-making process.

i love the way you've layered textures here...

re editing, there is physical fit and there is lifestyle/psychological fit...so something may still "fit", but if it not longer is serving its purpose, then it no longer fits your needs and you can/should pass on it. (i know that many will disagree, but if you have the budget and you have things that are not working for you, pass them on and getting something that is working for you.)

Angie - thing is, everything still kind of fits me, so I am looking for another criteria to edit my closet. For years, poor fit and worn out / stained / ruined things were my only criteria for editing out but now I feel paralyzed to buy anything new because everything still fits and is in good condition, so not sure what to edit. But I would like to get some new clothes, just not sure how to make room for them.

I love the way it all comes together in pic #2! Stinking cute in that hat!

Remember that your goal in to get dressed stylishly NOW. That means items that fit now. Not a future version of yourself. May I suggest getting a small capsule of bottoms to tide you over until your body has adjusted to the new meds. That will change the landscape of your wardrobe and make your style feel refreshed :)

We have very limited storage space in our loft too. Cannot hold onto things. Can't have a holding zone. Can't have clutter. So you will need to part with your least favourite bottoms - the ones that fit the least well too - to make room for the new. Personally, I pass on my items to very good second homes so I don't feel guilty doing this. The recipients are all too happy to get items in great condition! Or I recycle worn items.

I think forcing yourself to wear something is a good thing- cause it solidifies when things don't feel right, and it's easier to let go of them without doubts!

I was kind of hoping that tracking would give me guidance what to let go, but I did wear everything I have within last 12 months so no help there. But there were times when I did force myself to wear something even when I didn’t feel so great about it. Like this dress yesterday. So maybe instead of forcing myself, I should put it in holding zone and reassess later?

Love the second outfit especially!
I pass on things if they are problematic for me- like necklines too wide or low, shapes that don't work quite right, colors or styles that make me feel self conscious, things that feel drab or unflattering on.

I generally do not pass things on for size alone, as I gain and lose weight very easily.

Another beautifully polished outfit Anchie, and I too have trouble letting go of items that still fit and actually like but aren't quite current. I tend to put them in a holding zone and shop for something else as their replacement. Then later I'll see if I'm ready to give the older item up, and although it may take some time for me to actually realize its time to part ways, eventually it will usually happen.

April - thanks. I was thinking more along the line of how you identify what should go to make room for something new. If there is not anything that you specifically dislike, and everything you own is perfectly fine, maybe you are just little tired of wearing the same things?

I let go of things that fit and are in good condition by identifying someone who would love them - if possible - and passing them along. Friends, friends' adult kids, nieces, LMA's GF, etc. If that doesn't work, I donate to charity. Makes me feel better.

I am half way through the challenge and I must admit, I find it harder then expected. I can’t come up with new or interesting combinations and I am trying to pinpoint why. So hopefully some useful revelation will come up from this. My suspicion is that most of my pants are from the same 'era', when I first lost weight in 2019. Because of many years of wardrobe fluctuations, I was constantly refreshing my wardrobe, but based on only one criteria - if something was not fitting anymore. But now that my weight is more stable and everything still kind of fit, I keep wearing the same things. I think little wardrobe refresh is in order, but because I do one in and one out and can’t easily find anything that should go out, I hesitate. My expected weight gain has stalled and I even lost little bit of what I gained, but this is actually not a good news, just that my medications need adjustment. Will go tomorrow to check my blood.

Ok, so enough rambling and back to the outfit. This is really bad spot for taking photos, colors are never right and there are too many shadows. Darks are not black but navy, I took some closeups to show colors better. Blazer has little sparkle on it. Colors of the coat and pants are much more similar. And even though bag seems not to mach anything, there is a taupe color of the bag repeated in the scarf pattern. Just kidding LOL, I was too lazy to switch the bag.
How do you decide to let go of something if it still fits and is in good condition, without guilt? But if I don’t I would not be able to get anything new ever.
