If you go with Gap, you might try sizing down. My pair is a size 1, the smallest size I own in jeans. The Luckys are a 27 (4?) for comparison because the fit is nearly the same.

I like my Gap jeans for the fit. They do loosen a bit with wear, but nothing too bad (e.g., they don't slip off my hips or anything).

Try Lucky and Banana Republic jeans. Gap is hit and miss, but not bad.

During weight loss I thrifted some Gap and Banana Rep. straight leg jeans that have been excellent, but the best fitting have been Lucky dungarees. I always get compliments on the way I look in them.

I bought my first pair of premium jeans (David Kahn boot cuts) at Nordstrom on sale. They were under $100, and they remain my favorite pair of jeans. During weight loss, my go-to jeans were Old Navy boot cuts in the "sweetheart" cut. I think those are the "mid-rise" version. They consistently fit me well and are really inexpensive. Good luck! :o)

I love Levis. They have a new skinny leg that I almost purchased (still not sure they suit my body type). JCP has tons of styles in their stores.

My skinnies hang more straight in the back, so I just take them for a test walk to make sure that they aren't going to fall down long enough to drag when I walk around. They can even be a little longer than the bottom of my shoes if they will stay up.Just brushing the floor in bare feet seems a pretty good length for me. Having short legs, finding enough of a scrunch is not a big problem for me, though.
I do like the cut of the Soho's- I have heard people say to just size down for growth. Mine are actually a size bigger than most of my other pants/jeans, though.

I too liked the Sohos when I tried them, but they do stretch out a lot, so unfortunately the smallest size ended up being too big for me. If you're NOT the smallest size, all you have to do is buy a size down (maybe even 2 sizes, I found them to run big).

Thank you Khris! I was wondering about the DKNY Soho's too. The tip on finding the right length for skinnies is very helpful. So, you'd be in there in the fitting room, and literally pull the skinnies down over the back of the shoe to see that it's the PPL and then scrunch them back up towards the ankles?

I really like my Levi's 505 straight legs. I also like the fit of DKNY Soho's and Gap Long and Lean for bootcuts, but those stretch out more.
For length on skinnies, I like them at a length that covers most of the back of my shoe- this works with flats or heels. This allows for a scrunch, but keeps it from dragging on the floor.

Thanks! I've been thinking of the Jag jeans too. I have a few bookmarked to buy. Will definitely go and check out the INC brand jeans from Macy's as well.

I don't mind spending up to $100, just don't want to go off and spend like $190 or something on a pair of jeans that might not fit me in three months.

What are your favourite Jag jeans Marianna? I've got Foster something or other and Lucy boot cuts sitting in my shopping cart. Hmm..I better just go and try these things on. I have ordered things online recently only to have it turn out to be the wrong size or what have you.

I have two different styles from Macy's, they are the INC brand. One is a dark wash trouser jean and one is a dark wash skinny. Both fit great and were not premium price.
They have held their shape and color well for 2+ years of frequent wear.

Per the skinnies, I would keep looking for a pair that scrunches. You do not want to be limited to only wearing them with boots.

I have seen in the J crew catalog an ankle length skinny, but i don't really prefer it. It look funny to me like it cuts off the leg line.

Still on the pricey side, but not really premium, I really like Jag jeans. They fit really well, are so comfortable, and don't fade.

I used to wear a lot of Gap jeans as well and always loved them. But I understand the fit on those is hit or miss.

Have you thought about looking for premium denim at a consignment shop? That way you might be able to get premium denim without paying a fortune!

I am having real trouble finding some decent jeans. I'd like some bootcuts, two pairs - one for flats and one for heels. I'd also like some skinnies/straights as well.

Trouble is, I'm still working on losing the last of the weight, so am not keen on spending over $100 on jeans right now.

Also, I have a question about skinny jeans. I did find some that are sort of ok from JC Penney - but they're mostly going to be for boots, as I think they are too short. Is there a quick and easy guideline for PPL re: skinnies? My ideal PPL (I think) for bootcuts with flats (and I mean flat-flat) is 32". What inseam should I be looking for to achieve just the right 'scrunch' factor to wear skinnies or straight cut jeans with flats and/or booties? The one pair I have seem too short, and don't really scrunch. This is ok, because I can use them for tucking into boots - but my question is about skinnies/straight cuts where you want the 'scrunch factor'. Would I still stick to the 32" inseam and they'd have just the right scrunch, owing to the fact that they are slim around the ankles? Or do I need to be looking for a longer length?

And again, what are your favourite non-premium jeans?
