I love Chanel Cristalle which is a bit cucumbery and fresh - very green and not at all sweet.

MsMaven you are so lucky to have been to Grasse!!! I'm sorry about your allergy

I read about white ginger a while ago and thought it sounded wonderful, but I don't think I've smelled it.

When you start looking into reformulation you find that it happens regularly to almost every scent (though they swear til they're blue in the face it doesn't). There have been some significant changes to available ingredients in the last decade or two that have watered down a LOT of perfumes, plus they get tweaked every couple of years or even every few months.

If you love a perfume treat it like wine and stock up on the vintage you like when you find it!

Unfortunately I am allergic to lavender--an important ingredient in many perfumes, including my old favorite, Blonde by Versace. I recently bought some Chanel No. 5--I wore it a lot when I was much younger. The last time I had it memories of my single years almost overwhelmed me. This time it didn't happen and I wonder if Chanel has changed the formula. It doesn't seem to have that haunting note I associate with it.

I also wear White Ginger, a single flower Hawaiian perfume. I bought 4 bottles last time I was there, giving my son something to wonder about when he came home for a visit. I stored them in the refrigerator. I'm almost out.

We visited Grasse, France, in the fall, long after the harvest, to accommodate my allergy. Otherwise, I steer clear of candle shops and the perfume departments.

I'm still a Chanel Coco Mademoiselle fan and whenever I wear it, I always get compliments or someone asks me what I'm wearing. My husband gave me Creed last year (green cap), but it seems a bit too floral for me. I don't like anything too sweet and tend to like clean, fresh scents, sometimes with a hint of oriental.

Actually I saved a "Los Angeles Times" Image section article, from earlier this year, about men's fragrances that aren't gender specific and the woman reporter reviewing them wrote the piece, "10 men's fragrances that women love — for themselves"
Eau d'Hadrien, Silver Mountain Water, Gendarme and Guerlain Vetiver are among the men's scents that are popular with women too. January 09, 2011|Janet Kinosian | Special to the Los Angeles Times

You may be able to find it online. If not, email me as I made a word document out of it and copied and pasted the entire article so I'd have it for perfume shopping. She goes through each of the 10 fragrances with really wonderful, vivid descriptions, so she's done her homework. Fragrances are such a personal thing and it's always best to go experience it for yourself. Great topic Ironkurtin!

I'm not a huge fan of green scents, but I recently tried Chanel No. 19 (reformulated), and I'd describe it as green and powdery. You might give it a try. I like it, not too sweet (I don't favor sweet scents, either) but it is floral. It should be pretty easy to find so you wouldn't have to purchase to try it first.

I like Clinique's Aromatics Elixir. It's definitely green and fades to something, I don't know.....not sweet or light. Full bodied, I guess. Hubby says it smells like bug spray but I love it and just don't wear it around him.

I must be getting old as I recognize none of the fragrances mentioned previously.

And as for favourite perfumes - I really don't have one. There's too many I love, and my nose changes from hate to love and vice versa surprisingly often.

I just put on a few drops of my sample of L'Artisan's Dzing! Only experienced the opening so far, and don't want to jinx the rest, but WOW. Swoon.

I can't help but I would suggest putting the question to a fragrance board like the one on Makeupalley, or Basenotes (not sure if it's okay to mention other boards here, please delete if it's against the rules). There's a wealth of knowledge and experience out there (especially regarding the problem of reformulation).

Oh, this is a sore subject with me. Diorissimo is an old (created 1956) classic green scent from Christian Dior that I have been wearing for over 25 years, and adored. It was the only perfume I wore.

Dior killed it.

Not as in taking it off the market, but in reformulating it. Perfumers reformulate perfumes all the time, to reduce expenses (substituting other, cheaper ingredients) or because of changing government regulations, and Diorissimo was no different. It had undergone changes over the years. But in this last reformulation, Diorissimo smells nothing like the perfume that captivated me all those years ago. I am bereft. I feel like I've lost part of myself, silly as that sounds.

If any of you ladies has any recommendations for a perfume with sharp green notes, that smells clean and fresh and fades to warm full-bodied notes without any hint of sugary sweetness, please let me know.

Have you tried any of the CB I Hate perfume scents? He's got some cool "memory" scents that are supposed to evoke a place or time and they are definitely NOT your run of the mill perfume. Even better, you can get different distillations and mix up your own personal scent depending on your mood....
