My favorite cashmere sweater ever is from Autumn Cashmere. It's like 10 years old and still looks good!

Be sure to check consignment stores and even go through thrift stores if you have the time. If you can get to a Uniqlo, they had good looking cashmere sweaters in oodles of colors for about $69.

Cashmere is the best. Light and warm, and a perfect substitute for fleece. But the price! I have just 3 cashmere pieces, but they get a ton of wear (year-round here in chilly Marin County, California).

I agree with RunnerChick's suggestion of checking high-end consignment for cashmere. 90% of it is pilled or shrunken looking, but I bought a tags-still-on sweater for much less than new.

Macy's Charter Club cashmere is not as luxurious as some other brands, but it is very affordable as they often have sales + extra % off if you have a Macy's card. I have a long sweater similar to the one below from 2 years ago that I wear often (even in the summer over sleeveless tops). It still looks new (I was worried that it would not wear well).

I've had very good luck with JCrew cashmere. My two black v-neck pullovers are going strong 5-10 years after I bought them.

i love brooks brothers. wears like iron with no pilling after once a week wear x3 ys on a crew neck cardi and shell. it's not drapey like some of the jcrew tissue cashmere crews, but drapes well if bought one size up. the only problem with this year's collection is lack of a wine color.

this blogger loves eric bompard

Winter Silks: http://www.wintersilks.com
They sometimes have a good collection.

I also like thrift and high-end consignment stores as a source. High quality cashmere is mostly out of my budget.

One of my goals for this year is to add more cashmere to my wardrobe. I'm leaning towards a wine colored v-neck cardigan and a camel scoop neck.

I know it's early and all the stock isn't in. Where are your favorite sources for cashmere. I've been browsing J Crew, Pure Collection and Eric Bompard. Pure Collection is in the lead with the right mix of color, silhouette and price, but I'm unsure about quality, fit and it's coming from England with a big shipping price tag. The higher shipping also compels me to buy both sweaters together in order to save, but then I'm taking a bigger risk.

Any experience or opinions?
