Ginger's got it, I think: The long hair with full bangs shows the lingering influence of the 1940s, as does the narrow skirt, while the skirt's longer length reflects the "New Look" postwar designs of Dior. So I would date this outfit ca. 1948--55.

That looks early/mid 1950s to me. The very popular pageboy hairstyle appeared in the mid-1940s and lasted for at least a decade, but the long, slender pencil skirt appears about 1949. I know more about earlier decades (pre-1950), though I'm not terribly familiar with designers.

Gene dolls are lovely! I'm surprised a document such as you describe isn't already in existence. I guess I just assumed that the documentation was already out there.

Hello,
I'm new here. My reason for joining is to have a group of people whom I may be able to tap their knowledge on fashion history.
I have a doll collection of the doll is a fictitious 1940's movie star and a group of friends. Perhaps you have hear of Gene Marshall dolls?
Well, I am compiling a list of her fashions in order by circa date which ranges from the 1920's to early 60's for all Gene Marshall doll fans. Sadly I am not a fashion history buff and this is why I came here. This is not a published work, just a document I will share among other collectors. I can include your name and/or the name of this forum in my credits if you like.

Will anyone be interested in helping me? Here is one picture I need the circa identified if you can not name a year specifically I would appreciate a good guess for a half decade ballpark thought. Also if you can identify the designer/source inspiration for the fashion it would be a bonus for the collectors but not necessary.
http://davelandweb.com/genemar.....24479883_o
Thanks!
