This fascinating account of your experiences at the fashion event is a great read, Annagybe!

I love bandanas and used to wear the "valley girl" bandana-as-necklace in the 1980s.

So I was intrigued about your report of people currently wearing them as hair accessories. I gave it a try with a turquoise-and-lime bandana - but unfortunately on me, it looks like Rosie the Riveter. :)

Back to the drawing board.

Very interesting report. I think skinnies with heels are quite flattering on alot of bodies, I am guessing that is why they have such a hold on street fashion. I would have loved to have been there with you.

Interesting report, Anna. I enjoyed seeing the event through your eyes. I love the sound of your outfit!
I'm laughing at the bandanna thing, because looking at your Pinterest images, I recognize the look. I wear it every day. That's how I keep my hair out of my face when I wash before bedtime! My bandana of the moment is purple. I also have yellow, royal blue, red, and yellow ones. Never thought to wear the look out of the house. Or out of the bathroom, for that matter.

In the past 2-3 weeks I've been seeing COULOTTES! in the big city (Toronto). Flowey ones, because it has been so hot. They are worn with high vamped city sandals with a chunky heel.

I've been wearing ankle cropped trousers and tube pencil skirts with sleeveless tops and either my high vamped city sandals or black gladiators with a small wedge. We are in endless summer mode, and new-for-fall purchases will have to wait for cooler weather!

Great report - sad that you did not find anything but it sounds like you had a different kind of fun!
I work on a uni campus in Australia, it is a pretty elite one, and there is a fair amount of students with money to spend on clothes. It has been winter here, and I'd say 99 out of 100 girls are wearing skinnies. I could count on one hand the times I've seen flares, and when I did they seemed quite costumes, and not something worn with ease. Boyfriends are rare too, though boyfriend style cut offs are reappearing as the weather warms up.

Thanks Anna! I've been toying with the bandeau thing for weekend/casual. To add a little interest, since I'm not really an accessories person. I have really short hair, though!

Now, what do Seattle folks wear in winter? I've booked my (and DH's) tickets. Will be visiting my Dad in Bellevue between Nov. 25 - Dec. 2. He is putting a car at our disposal, and we are not in each others pockets! I would love to meet up with your, and any other Seattle folks so inclined!

I used to wear bandanas and scarves in my hair a lot in the 90s / early 2000s. I wasn't as fashion conscious then, so I know it was a look I saw around me, but I don't know if I pulled it off particularly well. I was just wondering the other day if it would come back.

I'm sorry you came away empty handed. Interesting about the bandanas. I haven't seen that here yet (not that I run in high fashion circles). Everyone has their own style. Nonetheless, it's never ok when people are rude. I come from a place where people usually fall over themselves apologizing (me included), so to not apologize would drive me batty ;)

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised by how big a hold the skinnies-with-heels still seems to have around here (at least in certain, well-heeled parts of town), but it's fun seeing how things are starting to shift fashion-wise in the broader, more diverse population of our city as a whole. I really do feel like it's becoming more "anything goes" and less trend-driven, at least around here, as far as what can pass for fashionable. I know, we're not exactly cutting edge NYC levels of fashionable, but I like to think my quirky town has a bit of style.

Oh, the look of the night is far cry from the general look you see in Seattle.
This is Seattle street style blog. But it's also a very specific look that photographer seems to seek out. She also photographs some people more than once.

This is a great social report, Anna, thanks for posting. I so enjoy hearing about the street looks in different cities. The looks you describe are not ones I'd associate with my (completely ignorant) perception of Seattle.

I'm a bit surprised at the hold skinnies seem to have on real-life wear. When I was in New York's Soho district earlier this summer, everyone on the street was wearing skinnies or super straights, yet all the merchandise in the stores was boyfriend--even baggy boyfriends. And the skinnies with heels look seems VERY passé to me, yet women where I live still wear them.

This is on long side. I wrote it first in Word so I didn't lose it.

So Thursday night I went to a fall event at my local consignment store. Some of you that went to September Ingefest, I took you there. So the owner held an event with champagne cocktails, nibblies etc. There was a stylist on hand to help you if you needed.

I perused the racks, but most of the stuff I liked was too small for me. Though sometimes I caught myself looking at stuff that I had consigned. I did try on a really cool pair of burgundy laceless oxfords, unfortunately ½ a size too small. Another woman was trying on some brown lace up boots, her friend said they were very seventies in a slightly derisive tone. I said the seventies were in now.

So as I was drinking my champagne I decided to do some people watching. Judging by the handbags, most of the women were wealthy. The prevailing look were very skinny jeans or pants, with high heels, probably at least 3-4 inches. Hair was mostly long with loose carefully styled curls. The crowd is a far cry from my cohort.

One woman had black skinny jeans, tight cut out black top and burgundy suede high heeled thigh high Stuart Weitzman boots. It’s a hot boot right now, but seemed to be brought down by the rest of her outfit.

One woman who was later tagged on facebook. I looked her up and she was a professional stylist/personal shopper. Her hair was also that long styled loose curls. Overall I felt her look was standard pretty woman of means.

Two things I did see were women wearing the folded bandana tied at the top of the head, angling towards the front. One woman, her hair and makeup were in the rockabilly vein. But her outfit was tight black skinnies with stiletto pumps. Funny thing is I happened to be at bar the same time as her before the event. The conversation I overheard with her friend…was..not quite polite for here. Those of you friends with me on facebook saw me transcribe some of her words. I was a bit surprised to see her at the event. Her friend was the burgundy suede thigh highs. I was pretty annoyed by both of them at the bar because they kept bumping into me without saying excuse me even once. I would have made room for them if they even asked. So I was already negatively predisposed.

Later another woman who used to work at Nordies and Barneys and I think now is independent. She was wearing her bandana in the same way, with baggy boyfriend jeans, white tee and chunky heeled sandals.

I remember the bandana look way back in the nineties by rockabilly woman. It was also worn by deceased rapper Tupac, and Cholos. I was trying to figure out if this was culture appropriation, but doing some research it goes back to the 40’s and has been adopted by many different groups.

It was more of cultural anthropology experience for me.

I said my good byes to the shop owner, who by the way is super sweet. She was a bit bummed I couldn’t find anything, but said as long as I kept bringing good stuff she was always happy to see me.

ETA I was wearing my cropped flared dark stiff denim Apiece Apart jeans, boxy cropped white woven JCrew top, black sateen Pendleton short coat and navy studded oxfords. So yeah I probably stood out more.
