Very fun and interesting observations Anna. I for one hope that platform heels never come back. They are just heavy and awkward looking, but I’m sure they will be re-invented yet again.
I also hope that the pointy toe heel/stiletto never goes out . Nothing prettier and more feminine to my eye !

What a great Observation. I have to say that you describe it very well. According to your post, you are talking about early 90's and i love it. I am very interested to read more like this.

Wow, how great to see #2 and #3! (Referring to your last pics.) Fab 70s and 80s vibes. (I often wore styles like these, including white boots, then.)

So here are some of the Barneys looks
#1-4 white shoes & boots
#5 Sexy athleisure
#6-8 The suburban looks
#9 I thought the sequined robe & jeans was super fun. Though I think it’d only work at a standing party.

The video had me laughing so hard!

To my mind, the CL and stilettos in general will always be a classic and never completely out of style. I like stilettos more with pants these days rather than with dresses or skirts.

Anna - really interesting. Street style in my area is super low right now - baggy muumuu’s and sloppy shorts in the heat. Last time I saw CL was at a college recital on one of the soloists black patent had to be 5”. She almost face planted on stage w her bass clarinet. Soles were very conspicuous. Certainly not the norm. I see more and more Chanel Bags though. I try not to spay drool as they go by. Oh the sirens call of the black Chanel boy bag.....which lives in fantasy only.

It may just be my life, but I hadn't seen stilettos in person in a while. This week I went to two morning classical recitals and the 20something cellist, clarinetist, and pianist all wore stilettos. I couldn't help thinking the angle of the pianists feet looked odd, etc.

Interesting read, thanks Anna. I love the sound of the poplin skirt and tucked in tank - looks so fresh and lovely on the lithe "concsious fashion" bloggers these days. Loubs are worn here by the NHL players' wives and girlfriends, along with the bandage dresses LaP mentioned. Although classic in design, they always scream " look at me" to me.

Interesting.

All things come back in style?

I have to say, I don't see too many heels here anymore. Two ladies in HR wear them. Everyone else tends toward ballet flats or loafers. I've also been seeing more dressy sneakers lately.

Street style tends to be even more laid back. Lots of sneakers or even athletic wear.

But Milwaukee is not exactly a fashion capital

My mom’s signature look when I was growing up was a a-line/circle midi + tucked blouse + pumps, always heels but not stilettos. It’s too elegant/polished for me, lol.

I have seen the skirts in stores but not so much on the street. On the other hand it’s hotter than hell and super humid right now so everyone is wearing shorts or sundresses. Honestly the style quotient here is pretty low right now, we can’t be bothered when we get drenched in sweat the minute we go outside. I suspect I’ll see more of the skirts in the fall. I’ve seen them a couple of times with low profile sneakers, which is a cute combo.

I see almost zero heels here nowadays unless I’m at an evening event. Maybe it’s bevause everyone walks here and there’s lots of cobblestones etc, but it’s all sneakers, strappy flat sandals, euro slides, and ballet flats. Even wedges and platforms are rare (I still wear mine on occasion when I want some height.).

Tucking into stiff a lines is an all round no go for my short waisted 8 shape! As far as the stilettos, come to think of it, my highest heels are sandals and boots save one pair of floral pumps. The combo together would read as vintage 50s to me.

Whose stuff skirts remind me a lot of stylish skirts in the mid 1960's. They were often even lined with a stiff fabric so that they would stand out. I had a pink prom dress with this sort of skirt lining.. Of course it was worn with heels.

Interesting observations Anna. My feeling about heels is like yours - some women will always wear them. They will never go completely out of style because at the end of the day they create a longer leg and broadcast a certain idea. I just thrifted a skirt similar to one you describe but mine has broad stripes - perhaps there is something in the air, or perhaps it is just skirts turn to bob up.

Regarding Louboutins, I think they're popular still with certain populations, where emphasis on sexuality is important. I was thinking Kim Kardashian, but with now with Kanye her style has changed somewhat, and looking at her shoes, when she wears stilettos they're either sandals or boots. Mind you, I'm not a fan of her look, but she is VERY popular. Kylie Jenner, who is probably more popular now, likes sneakers more, but when she wearing heels it's similar to KK.
But in looking at some web searches, one article said they're coming back, like all older things. Obviously take with a grain of salt.
https://glowsly.com/christian-louboutin-shoes/
I think they can work with newer clothes, see pics & links below
https://le21eme.com/theodora-t.....n-milan-4/
https://le21eme.com/10th-avenue-new-york-city-17/

Look Angie, white
https://le21eme.com/natasha-goldenberg-milan/

Pic #3 is an African print blouse, Chanel bag and the infamous red heel, I think it works in a totally different way.

Warning, this has a lot swearing and some NSFW visualizes (no nudity). But it's freaking hilarious, and since I saw it a few years ago, I can't think of Louboutins in the same way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et281UHNoOU

All that being said, I never owned a pair because my feet were too wide.

ETA: I think the rise of logomania, these may come back because they are an obvious brand. But also I'm much more of an observer of fashion these days, than a participant. My big NAS purchases were bras and leggings.

The midi and volume on the bottom have definitely hit here in full force. I like the sound of these skirts - wore that shape alot about 2005. My waist is possibly/definitely thicker but I think it still could work.

I think the classic stiletto pump is a classic. But it looks best worn with pants now - such as Megan Markle in her black pants suit. I am fond of them though so I may be biased.

Honestly with shoes I think most things go at the moment - I have seen dainty, chunky, 90s inspired, 70s inspired, 80s inspired, menswear inspired and lots of black, white, cognac, blush, red, silver, rose - all shades.

I see some stilettos in Baltimore (not Annapolis and not DC).

I think shoe style is a little stale right now. Nothing for F/W really grabbing me or feeling like much of a departure from the last year or two. Which is fine because it’s money I’m not spending!

Anna, I pinned the look below for a future 'copy cat' since I own similar pieces. I quite like the look of the white loafers with the dark outfit.

The poplin skirt outfit sounds like a less costumey version of the Carrie Bradshaw tutu look or the short skater skirt (which I saw a lot of last summer in the Big City.'). It is probably a combination of the skirts being in stores, the warm weather, and the romance of the swish factor.

The Uniqlo version looks very much like what you're describing. I like these colours for summer-into-fall, and am very tempted to add one myself. I've pretty much been living in slim-fit tank tops tucked into high-waisted things this summer, and will probably continue to do so with a topper when it's a bit cooler. (Uniqlo Supima tanks are perfect for this, btw.)

Everlane released a poplin collection in the spring -- no olive or khaki, though; just some oddly bright colours I wasn't totally in love with, plus black. If there'd been olive, I might've bought the a-line skirt and the matching crop top.

Re: Louboutins, when I lived in Las Vegas, I liked to say that LV is where all of the Louboutins and bandage dresses go to die... it seems to be a perennial look there, like maybe people save them just for when they vacation on the Strip, but anywhere else, yes, they look dated to me.

DonnaF, hmm they might be from Uniqlo, they were all very similar.
Angie, Skirt look was on the street.
I’ll have to think about the Louboutin’s.

Anna, where are you seeing the first skirt look you described? At Barneys or on the street.

I was just thinking of the oh so once "it-shoe", the Christian Louboutin stiletto heeled pump, and wondering whether it looks classic or dated. What do you think?

Didn't Uniqlo have midi poplin skirts this past spring?

I was hoping the Barneys catalog would be available online the way Nordstroms is. Guess not.

I noticed a micro trend of sorts recently in Seattle
Woman wearing stiff poplin or equivalent cotton fabric A-line skirts. They’re midi length and the fabric is stiff enough to create a true A-line. Solid colors: true green, olive or khaki. Worn with either a fitted tank or tee that is tucked in. Shoes were pointed toe mules, lace-up pointed toe ballet flats or other dainty flats.
Yesterday I got the Barneys fall catalog. Like Angie has said the fashion is all other the place. I noticed many white booties, mostly heeled. Worn with dark clothes.
They also had a fashion spread that was in suburbia and they emphasized that fact. But the houses that they photographed outside of where the suburbs of 50 plus years ago. There were sidewalks, no cul de sacs. And of course the fashion while interesting would definitely stand out, dark floral dresses etc.
They are definitely still trying to push stilettos. Even had an interview with some new Italian shoe designers who designed heels for women that weren’t afraid to wear them. Overall the stilettos were eh, nothing particularly groundbreaking.

The Seattle Barneys seems to have a larger men’s section than women’s. So I don’t think I’ll see much here & I shop there a lot less.
