Thanks for the recommendation! I don't get out to see many movies (too many kid activities to go to instead!), but I'll keep an eye for it when it comes out on itunes.

I watched it last weekend, and was mesmerized by the whole look of it. Well done, costume department. The nightclub scenes were especially appealing visually. The huge American cars made quite a statement against the old streets and buildings, and reflected the men's oversized ambitions and egos. I was disappointed, though, that we never got to see Emily Browning racing through the East End in her red Triumph Spitfire. I guess she never did learn how to drive.

I enjoyed the movie but loved the recreation of the time even more, Emily's wardrobe is quite fantastic. Strangely enough my favourite look is from Frances and Reggie's first meeting, where she answers the door in a jumper and slip. I have pinned current interpretations of this look very recently.

Here's a still from the movie.

And for music lovers, Duffy has a role in several scenes as a lounge singer so you know the music is fab too.

Oooh, thanks! I got sucked into Mad Men after the fab fashion was discussed here. This sounds like another winner:)

As for Downton Abbey, 20s fashion has never really lit my fire, but the DA costuming, particularly for this season, has been drop-dead amazing right now to the lingerie. It's made me a convert. As Lady Mary said not too long ago, "ooooh, yummy!"

Sounds fun!!

I have started watching three new TV shows that have fun fashion in them:

Vinyl - only seen the first episode, 70s decadence
Partners in Crime - post WW2 English fabness (plus David Walliams - fun)
The Night Manager - less fashion but John Le Carre, one of my all time favourite authors. And some great menswear by the lead.

I'm sold too. Thanks, Viv. I'm excited. LOVE Tom Hardy. One of my faves.

Btw, we're watching the final season (6) of Downton Abbey right now and the 1925 fashion is SPECTACULAR. And it's not my favourite fashion era either. But WOW.

It's gangsters - so be warned there are a few bloody scenes. And there are times the cockney is a little hard to understand. But it's worth it. :)

DH and I saw Legend this weekend: it's the story of the notorious Cray brothers, twin gangsters in 60s London. For my money, it's worth seeing if only to watch Tom Hardy's amazing acting as both the brothers -- he's by turns suave, charming, insane, ruthless, and funny. Quite stellar.

But you must also see it for the fashion if you like 60s mod. Emily Browning's wardrobe is TO DIE FOR. I'm still lusting for the black pantsuit she wears to her first date with Reggie Cray. And just about everything else she wears.

It's a great, tragic story set in an amazing no-holds barred time.
