Thank you for your kind comments on my outfit yesterday. El Cee, the coral pullover will look extra rich with the silver jeans. Sterling, I hope that you are feeling better.
Inspired by Angie's blog post this morning, March 4, I think I'll try using an olive non-bomber jacket that is an orphan. It is a casual day. The rest of the outfit is still under consideration, but I plan to use either black or blue jeans and probably a striped tee and giraffe print ballet flats that don't get enough wear.
ETA: I think I may have yesterday's skirt tapered. Thank you for the suggestion
ETA: I could not find the jacket I had in mind and probably edited it out. The one I am wearing is a different one,an EF from several years ago. The second photo shows a little Gap cotton scarf added at the last minute, also several years old.

Joy -- I agree wholeheartedly with Aida and Sterling that you looked gorgeous in yesterday's outfit. I do not see any visual inches added to your waist area. I also like the skirt. It is slim enough that it works with the more voluminous blouse, but I like Aida's idea of tapering the skirt a bit.

A running around day for me today. We also have a bit of fresh snow on the ground , so I need to dress warmly and comfortably, and prepare for slush. My orphan item is a coral V-neck pullover. I will be wearing it with silver metallic skinny jeans, a gray and white fade-out cardigan and a mixed metal and mother of pearl long necklace. For footwear: suede pewter boat shoes for indoors and Sperry duck boots for outdoors.

Joy that outfit is beautiful on you! I especially like it with the jacket for a little added toughness. Tapering the skirt seems like a simple alteration, would it be worth doing?

Sterling the outfit you originally planned seems like it would be fine for meetings with a soft longer blouse in place of the tee along with smart footwear; or leave the tee and add a long necklace perhaps. You could always take the jacket off the rest of the day after your meetings.

Hi Joy. I don't see any inches added to your middle from the blouse (in either picture). I also don't see an A-line skirt in either picture, but you would know better than me. I will admit that I love pencil skirts. They look and feel so sophisticated to me. I wear them even when they are not the dominant style.

Outfit for today. I think the skirt is s near orphan because the slight A-line seems s bit grumpy. A pencil skirt might fair better. I wonder if the volume of the blouse is adding visual inches to my middle.

Joy -- Re: the Old Navy metallic jeans -- I have not washed them yet and will be following the laundering instructions on the label very carefully: wash inside-out, cold water, gentle cycle, line dry. I have two pairs of metallic jeans from Long Tall Sally that are similar fabrication and have the same washing instructions and they came out just fine, so I am not too worried.

Sterling, yes I am wearing the shell under the striped blouse. It has a tiny snap closure so isn't absolutely necessary but I feel less exposed.
I'm sorry that your outfit did not work out. If it is the colors together, try adding a third color or neutral, maybe a long silky top under the knit that peeks out? You need to wear that EF piece, but I do the same thing (save for an occasion).
El Cee, I love the jacket and the soft shades that you have chosen to wear with it. At one time I bought silver jeans similar to yours but the tag said that they had to be dry cleaned so they were returned. Do you wash yours?

Oh Sterling -- I so understand the desire to have professional looking, tailored attire that still feels like "jammies". You are not alone. I think every woman I know would agree with you on this frustration. I think your idea of having two sets of clothing for today is a very smart compromise. Hope you get a future opportunity to wear that lovely jacket. I am going to try to incorporate my own jackets into casual outfits this week and may run up against that same feeling of schizophrenia that you mention. About the Rockstar Jeans -- I got hooked on them a couple years back when fellow forum member Day Vies recommended them. For lower-end jeans they are surprisingly durable. And I find that it is a fun way for me to try something new (like a camo print or metallic) without spending a fortune.

So today's outfit is a bust. I needed to look somewhat professional for morning meetings, but I wanted to wear leggings/soft tee shirts.

As a result, my ultimate outfit has the strangest feel of schizophrenia. I ended up bringing clothes that I can wear to my morning meetings. I intend to change immediately afterward into leggings/tee shirt. So I am actually wearing a lot of different looks today. The red blazer remains my previously unworn item for March 3.

Hi all! Joy -- What a gorgeous ensemble. I love the juxtaposition of the biker jacket with the refined, ladylike pieces. The handbag is beautiful. Sterling -- Love your outfit for today… chic column of black with a fabulous statement jacket. You are going to look fabulous.

We will also be experiencing a cold snap for a few days, so I am taking the opportunity to finish evaluating unworn pieces from my winter wardrobe. Today's orphan is a somewhat cropped jacquard jacket that I have had for a billion years. I love the intricate pattern and used to wear this a lot when I worked in an office environment. I need to find ways to casualize it or decide to pass it along. I will be wearing it open over a cocoon sleeve tunic. I will also be wearing silver metallic skinny jeans, moto boots, silver huggie earrings and a mixed metal link necklace. (The jacket will probably come off here and there throughout the day, so I need additional interest. -- hence the jewelry).

For March 3, I have a rarely worn camel colored wool skirt and rarely worn striped crossover blouse planned. I like both pieces but they don't get much wear. I will probably wear gold loafers and may need a jacket. The bag in Finds does not get enough use either.
I have a midday meeting and grocery shopping planned, then change for dog walking or the gym and cooking. Changing will probably mean switching out the skirt for black jeans, gold loafers for gold sneakers, and maybe the blouse for a winter floral mixed media sweatshirt that has been an orphan this F/W.

It is a good idea, Aida. Truthfully, I have never mastered the concept of laying shirts under sweaters.

Joy -- I love either outfit idea for today. (Totally in love with black & white combos!) Your Halogen sweater is gorgeous. Have to agree with Aida on yesterday's outfit -- the volume over volume is overwhelming your lovely figure. (I love her idea of trying the wide leg pants with a fitted wrap top). But I do think the plaid over denim look is fabulous. Aida -- You have such a great eye for proportions. I enjoy following your WIW threads as you have really amazing outfit ideas.

In the "keeping myself honest" department -- a quick switch up in my own outfit for today. Substituted my ponte bootcut pants for the patterned skinny jeans. Felt that the pattern of the sweater against the shiny houndstooth of the jeans was a bit too much. Will also be switching up footwear to accommodate the longer length of the bootcuts.

To all -- Have a great day!

Aida, you always wow me with your wonderful insights. I have not tried the plaid shirt with a skirt and will have to do that. I also will try different tops and pointy shoes with those wide jeans, and just the plaid shirt with a jacket. I did have Ina red down vest part of the day for warmth, but that was not very successful.

Joy the double collars are fun! I think perhaps this was a little too voluminous all around for you; in addition pointier footwear might help with the jeans. Those wide legs would be particularly good with a fitted wrap-style top, a crossover top, or simply a fitted sweater. If they're higher-waisted, a high-low top could also work. If you didn't already have lots of layers going a jacket with some tailored seaming might reign the volume in enough along with pointy footwear. Have you tried this plaid shirt with your skirts at all? Would be fun, tucked in.

Sterling and El Cee, I hope that you find sucess with your outfits tomorrow. You have both reminded me of items I should get out and wear before it gets too hot. I'm inspired to wear white full length jeans and probably a black and white sweater if it is cold. If it is warm enough, I will wear a loose knit black pullover something like El Cee's. It needs a tank under it. I wore it a lot last year but not at all this year.
Meanwhile here are a few shots of what I wore today. I liked the double buttondowns, the wide jeans not so much. I'm thinking of trying to cut them off for culottes for summertime, but am not sure that they are worth the effort. What do you think? I am wondering if the plaid shirt was a mistake but need to play more with styling it. It did not look good tucked or semitucked into the wide jeans. On the other hand it was rather nice to wear a different style of jeans for a change.
Finds below are for tomorrow's outfit. I included both sweater possibilities.

Sterling -- Yay for white jeans success! (You and Joy are inspiring me to go pull mine out of my Spring storage box and to start wearing them right away.) Yours will look so nice tomorrow worn with soft pink and gray. I absolutely love your idea of taking button-down shirts to the dry cleaner instead of spending all that extra time pressing them yourself. Our local cleaner has a quick turn around (24 hours or less) and has volume discount on shirts. I should really think about doing this as I am a life member of the "I Hate Ironing" club.

Tomorrow I plan on wearing an "Almost Black" ensemble. The unworn item is another pullover -- this one is is a loose knit and requires a cami, which is probably why I tend not to wear it. I will be pairing the pullover with a bright citron cami/tank, black tonal houndstooth skinny jeans, moto boots and some gold tone jewelry.

The white jeans were a success today!!

I am going to wear them again tomorrow (March 2). I am going to pair the jeans with a pink button-down (unworn item) and my long cotton cardigan (somewhat unworn item). I'll wear my pearls (most beloved necklace and best buy).

I've come to realize that I actually like button downs. I had stopped wearing them because I got tired of ironing them. I decided that in order to wear them I need to find a dry cleaner that is convenient to work. I found a dry cleaners that is half way between work and home. So button downs (all my button downs) have regained a prominent place in my wardrobe. I could stop right now and the challenge would be a success for me. Special thanks to JANET.

Joy -- Hope you are keeping the coral jacket from yesterday's outfit. The color is amazing on you. Regarding your outfit for today -- I love your idea of layering plaid over chambray/denim. I bet it will look fabulous.

More love for your outfit today. I have been wearing white jeans year round because otherwise my window for wearing them comfortably is very short and they become orphans. I've also not been reaching for my chambray shirts ( one blue, one light gray) this year.
El Cee, I also love your outfit with the print sweater. It reminds me that I bought a similar piece for spring but have been guilty of saving it.
Today will be cold and windy with lots of housework to tackle. I plan to wear at least 2 seldom worn items and may throw in the blue chambray shirt too. Plaid buttondown from last summer's NAS ( and the BR chambray shirt layered underneath), old wide blue jeans, and seldom worn brown ankle boots. The ones in Finds are similar. The plaid shirt is the exact one.
Photo below is what I ended up wearing yesterday. The jacket is seldom worn, a thrift store find. It was included with jackets on another thread yesterday.

Sterling -- I absolutely LOVE your outfit for today… so fresh and crisp looking. I adore your white driving mocs and pearl/turquoise necklace -- perfect accents for your ensemble. I, too, am drawn to chambray and denim shirts. They are so fabulous paired with white jeans and shoes. I may be a copycat later in the week as we have some warmer weather arriving. I understand about needing a large tote for your lifestyle. I am in the same boat. If I try anything smaller I end up taking an extra cloth tote to carry the stuff that will not fit. The "two bag" thing isn't really working for me. Wishing you luck in your search for a beautiful, perfectly sized tote.

I will be attempting to wear two orphans today… another ignored pullover and a pair of teal straight leg jeans that had been a bit too tight to wear for a few seasons. Tried them on this morning and they fit -- a bit snug in the waist area but they do stretch after a few hours of wear (thanks to 2% spandex). The sweater has some teal in the pattern so I am hoping this combo will work comfort-wise as well as color-wise. I will be pairing these two pieces with suede pewter boat shoes and silver earrings.
