That was a shock. There were also not gums and exercise programs that I was aware of before President John Kennedy's push to get the population in shape in the 1960's., about the time that watching TV became popular. .<br /> As an elementary level teacher I also saw boys who had been jeered at as "fat" become admired for their football player bodies and fat girls as getting early attention for their curves. I felt sorry for these kids on several levels.
