Isabel, my mom won't eat peach flavor anymore either. She just had some serious vomiting after peach ice cream and that's enough association for her. 40+ years ago. Obviously nowhere near the severity of your episode. So glad everything went right that day for you with emergency services!

Wow, Isabel, what a story. Rambling Ann, your story made me squirm. And I liked taking an entomology class and am not afraid of creepy crawlies. However I'm deathly allergic to bee stings and black and yellow combos give me pause.

Yes, Una, but it had NOTHING to do with peaches ! LOL I feel really amazing to have survived it...and it impresses the hell out of medical personnel ! : )

I actually considered myself so unbelievably lucky : my husband was home, the dispatcher got the seriousness right away, our volunteer EMTs and firefighters and the police got here super fast, AND though they needed to call for back up from a town with employed EMTs who could do IVs on site, the ambulance in the town over from us was available and met us en route, and they had 5 EMTs available to ride with me to treat me immediately...it goes on and on...every thing went right that night. Except for the fruit which got that bum rap. : )

Isabel, that is such a terrible thing to have happened to you.

My DH is afraid of anything flying randomly - moths and bats. He thinks they will fly into his face.

OK...I have one developed phobia....it is peaches ( and anything that smells or tastes like peaches ). Yes, the fruit. It happened 5 years ago. I was drinking a peach drink ( which I used to love ) and an artery burst in my stomach. I needed 14 pints of blood and almost died. ( I vomited almost 3/4 of a gallon of blood ). I spent 9 days in the ICU and it took 3 days to stabilize me . So now I associate anything peach with throwing up blood. My daughter bought a peach flavored lip balm the other day and I had her throw it out. : (

Phobias ( like Una's ) are inexplicable. Our minds are really amazing. DH knows someone deathly afraid of clowns and someone else afraid of butterflies because he finds their flying "random".

Bugs or snakes or patterns don't bother me at all for some reason....nothing freaks me out except peaches. ( Ok....I am chuckling to my self right now . )

There are some particularly lush florals that make me uncomfortable - it's like my brain thinks they're rotting. It's rather odd.

There are some synthetics that have such a weird feel to the hand, too - I find 70s era polyester in the thrift store occasionally that feels so strange when you touch it. I could never take wearing something like that all day; it would drive me batty.

OK, if I have bug nightmares tonight, I am blaming all of YOU!

When I was in college, I remember one night where I woke up in the middle of the night and walked down to the bathroom in the dark. While doing so, I stepped on something that felt large. I was curious as to what it was, so on my way back from the bathroom, I turned on the light. It was a huge beetle of some sort, about 1.5 inches long. I almost got hysterical, because I had just stepped on that thing in my bare feet! A couple of days later, I found another one, even longer. And when we were cleaning to move out, I found a dead one, just as huge, under an end table.

It took me a very long time to be able to walk barefoot to the bathroom again after that incident.

Ugh, roaches! And palmetto bugs are not oversized roaches, I get it, but they are much worse. I felt my heart stop when one of them flew up and into my face (back then I had no idea they could fly). So big hug to you and thank you for sharing your story. Here's hoping that talking about it helps you separate the bugs from the sandals.

Mo, can't believe you remembered! Mine is not a fashion phobia, just a plain old phobia. It's a fear of certain repeating patterns or holes, usually organic. Honeycombs, coral, and especially lotus pod seeds give me the heebie-jeebies beyond belief.

There's even a name for it, trypophobia - I'd post a link, but if I google it and see any images (because people have even created images around it to freak people out) I will have to claw my own eyes out.

That's roach phobia, not fashion! And I can relate. I was walking last night with the BF when I realized a manhole cover was the escape hatch for some 'palmetto bugs' in the middle of the street. I couldn't scurry away fast enough.
Actually Una has a fashion phobia she has mentioned. It's circles repeated in a certain shape. Can't remember the precise name. Maybe she'll chime in.

That sounds disgusting! No wonder you have a fashion phobia.
I live in an area that has brown recluse spiders and have known a woman permanently debilitated by a bite. I am especially careful with clothes I haven't worn for awhile, shaking them and turning inside out and washing everything washable stored for the season or doing Dryell in the dryer.

I've never told this story before. I was 17, dolled up for the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at a swanky old art theater on Balboa Island. I don't remember what else I wore, but the sandals were cute, cream linen with an ankle strap.

I have somewhat of a phobia for bugs, especially cockroaches. It's gotten better as the years pass, but at the time, the sight of one made my stomach churn. SoCal can grow 'em big, 2" or more. Houston, where I lived for a while, it's even worse. They call them palmetto bugs but I don't care, they are disgusting roaches. Ugh.

In the middle of the film I felt something tickling the bottom of my foot. I shook my leg and an enormous roach jumped out from between my foot and sandal. Somehow I did not scream. But just typing this, my feet are squirming. I spent the rest of the show huddled in my seat to keep my feet off the floor and trying not throw up.

I have seldom worn sandals since.

Please tell me I'm not alone with a fashion phobia.
