Nice Mother's Day treat!

I presume that your Mum lives in Auckland? To the suggestion of a great pair of jeans and a blazer, I would add a couple of lightweight scarves that suit her complexion.

Perhaps a new lipstick or two as well?

I just noticed I added the wrong link (first one), now corrected. And I see that Vicki thought of the Karen blog post too:-)

I love all the suggestions. I don't know if Mum needs a coat, but I like the idea of a fab trench coat in a beautiful colour.

What a wonderful Mother's Day gift, Kiwichik, and I'm sure your Mum will enjoy the shopping day and good memories you'll be making together. Inge's links are excellent as is Denise's (cocolion's) specific items, too. A good pair of dark wash denim jeans with some nice non-iron dress shirts are good wardrobe staples. A pair of cute Cons, ballet flats and/or some cute black or brown low-heeled booties would be nice, too. Scarves and a cute bag are always wonderful items, too.

Here's the link on Angie's client you may have seen:

Have fun and post some pics, if you can!

Here are some ideas since you are coming into A/W (I figure you live in NZ right?):

- Get a really great fitting pair of straight legged dark wash jeans. Since you said she has nice legs, she could pull off a slim cut.
- Some very comfortable booties with a low or flat heel in black or dark brown. She has to love them. This would be a good substitute for athletic footwear which I see a lot of 60 plus women wearing yet are a quick ticket to frumpy-town.
- A great updated blazer she could wear with many different pieces. I like black, navy or a dark tweed. This would be a substitute for fleece which I also see a lot of 60 plus women wearing in my town. To make it one she wants to reach for frequently, it can't be too fitted; it must accommodate layers.

These three basics in updated silhouettes would be worn a lot and add instant style if they are good quality and fit. (This doesn't mean they have to be expensive! Some of my favorite jeans are $13 from Target, alongside my $300 True Religions.)

Inge thanks for those web links very helpful and christieanne what a great idea re the closet purge. After I posted this I found some great looks for mum at a kiwi shop I sometimes pop into.

That sounds like a wonderful day and plan! Your mom will enjoy the outing I hope.
I would keep it simple and try to do a capsule - maybe 3/4 bottoms and 4 tops as a goal.
If one of the bottoms was a skirt (even in a nice ponte or denim?) it could be dressed up.
Also, does she need a closet purge or re-org? That could be part of the gift (and low or no cost) and give you a chance to see what she has that may still work in.

And some WIW's of all the beautiful ladies over 60 on the forum?

Maybe this thread can help too?

Hi it will be Mother's Day here in NZ in 2 weeks & my sister & I want to take my Mum shopping. She lost a lot of weight recently & most of her clothes are too big. She is not into clothes shopping or fashion. She is an IT 5 ft 6 in with salt & pepper hair & dark olive skin ( she is Maori) & brown eyes. She has fabulous legs & people always think she is taller than she actually is.

She is a retired teacher so her outings are to go grocery shopping or to family outings. So she needs comfy casual stuff, no heels, mainly trousers & structured shirts. She also needs something smart to wear we plan to take her to dinner & a show.

I'm after some photos of women in their late 60s that I can show her to get to her warmed up to the idea. Also suggestions on a suitables casual comfy capsule plus something more dressy. We won't have a huge budget so will be budget shopping.
