@Carter: I really like those ideas! They sound conservative but dress up or down-able, especially the first one since I'm going to dress down for class and up for open house. Thank you so much!

A cute mid-thigh straight skirt with a non-tight tee or fluid tank and cardi? Add some cute sandals. Trying to think what my daughter might wear because I had to google romper:-). That is not what we called rompers in the 60s!

For days 3 and 4, my daughter (age 22) would probably wear a mid-thigh chiffon-ish spaghetti strap dress with a shrug that she could stuff in her purse if everyone else was bare-shouldered.

@Nancy: Thank you so much for your comment and advice :D

@Lyn: I was thinking of doing my hair like that and it's a good thing to know my everyday makeup (excluding the lips) works for sororities. I found this article about summery looks and it said if you take a bright lipstain and a nude lipbalm (I'm assuming it meant lipstick but whatever) that you get wearable summer lips so I'm trying that out as well. I'm not sure if I would want to wear a dress on Day 1 and that's because I have class from 9am-12pm and the "open house" part of recruitment is from 10am-2pm. I really don't want to go back to my dorm, change, and then go to the meeting area because I'd lose time with the girls.

I kinda have stink-eye at rompers ... I'm just trying to imagine what my sorority friend would wear ... I kind of imagine her just keeping it simple with maybe a classy dress and some funky accessories ... she has really pretty hair that she sets in a loose beach wave/curl thing ... and does a bright lip. And black eyeliner and mascara.

Congrats on your weight loss. You look stunning. A polished but girl-next-door type of look would be appropriate. I agree that you look like an hourglass. Be sure that you are comfortable in whatever you wear.

@Carter and Lyn: So would a solid colored romper with sandals and a statement necklace in the same realm of colors as the sandals be okay for Day 1? I'm literally stressing out mostly over Day 1, Day 3, and Day 4. Day 2 is mostly finding a way to make the T-Shirt look cute without styling it the same way as everyone else and I sort of have an idea planed out for Day 5.

Ha! Yes, that does help. My daughter, who was on the recruitment committee for her sorority said, "Rock a covered but pretty look. Don't flaunt your assets because girls can be snarky, but put your best foot forward in a non-threatening way." I think that pretty much means no "boobies and butts" hanging out! So, flatter your figure without showing it, and take care to put effort into your hair, make up, nails, etc.

@Carter: I'm going to school in Corpus Christi if that helps I'm not sure how conservative they're talking about, but I'm assuming boobies and butts hanging out is not okay. Preferably I wouldn't wear a crop top during these days just so I don't send off the wrong message. I'm not sure how I could, but it could happen.

Wow! Congratulations!

You will get much better suggestions here if we know something about you and your school. The ideas will be much different if you're going to school in Galveston than if you're headed off to the University of St Thomas. Any insight you can give on general location, how conservative the school might be in general, the types of things you saw students wearing when you visited, etc will help.

If you'd rather not share, you can still get some great feedback by showing us some proposed outfits for critique. Even if we can't get to exactly what's appropriate, you will get help on what fits/suits your body.

Look forward to getting to know you!

Congratulations on your weight loss and yay for the fun of building a new wardrobe!

You have a great figure and will have a lot of choice in terms of what to wear to flatter.

In terms of specifics, your general location might help -- we can offer suggestions that will work for your climate. What will the weather be like when you go through this experience?

Hi Ariel, welcome to YLF!

I see inverted triangle (in the pics your shoulders seem broader than your hips) with hourglass tendencies.
I'm sure Angie will chime in later too. Once you have established your body type(s), you'll find lots of info in the two posts Rachy just linked too. And remember: those are just the starting point, there's no need to follow the guidelines to the letter, experimenting with breaking "the rules" and discovering which silhouettes and proportions you love best on yourself are all part of the fashion fun.

Hello YLF!
I'm Ariel and I'm new to the site. I came here because I'm having a huge (in my opinion) fashion chrisis. I lost about 60lbs between March and now; going from 179 to 119. That being said, I also went from a size L-XL to a size XS-S. Because of my accomplishment (and the fact I need new clothes) I wanted to try and figure out my body type. In appearances I look like a cross between an Hourglass, Inverted Triangle, and Rectangle. If this sounds confusing, I have two pictures (a front and a back) to help explain it.

Front: http://i58.tinypic.com/34ot3s0.jpg
Back: http://i59.tinypic.com/2rdkd2p.jpg

My measurements are:
Shoulder-to-Shoulder: 17in
Shoulder Circumference: 39in
Chest: 31in
Waist: 26in
Hip Circumference: 37in
Hip-to-Hip: 17in
Thighs: 21.5in
Calves: 13.5in

I'm also going through sorority recruitment soon, so I was wondering if you could also help me figure out how to pair my body type with the guidelines of the recruitment dress code. Here's a general breakdown of each day:

Day 1: Whatever you want to wear, keep it conservative, trendy, and classy
Day 2: Recruitment T-Shirt (colors are teal with navy writing) and jeans
Day 3: A nice dress/skirt/pantset with comfortable heels or flats
Day 4: A nice dress with comfortable heels or flats
Day 5: A tank top with shorts and flip flops, sandals,or flats

I'm sorry to be asking so much of all of you, but I really an clueless when it comes to body shapes and fashion and styling and I really want to make a good impression, not only on the sorority girls but on everyone I meet because I overcame a huge (pun intended) roadblock in my life and I'm finally happy and confident with myself and I would like to show that off in the most tasteful way possible.

Thank you so much for reading all of this. I know it's a lot and I truly appreciate every read and comment.
