So I am here to report that I am a complete convert,
Not only do my legs look smoother but more importantly I have less pain I need areas like my neck which is chronically stiff and ouchy. I look forward to blasting bc it feels great!

@elpgal, I swear I read your comment as, "Highly recommend ROFLing [rolling on floor laughing] it was very gently, you can barely feel it. Made a tremendous difference to my yoga practice."

: ) I might take up yoga if it included rofling!

I do a bit of foam roller work (and should do more) and my massage therapist does some release work. It can be painful in that 'hurts-so-good' kind of way. Never had bruising as a result, though...

Lisap, that's hilarious! I think eavestroughs is one of those words that singles out the Canadians (and maybe UP MIchigan) from everyone else.

Although in my mind fascia refers to the body's connective tissue, so it always strikes me as weird to think my house has it too.

I couldn't even bring myself to watch the video. Breaking up fascia is what happens when you fall off the porch and massively bruise yourself...

Ouch! Is this for real? I think there are better ways to manipulate fascia during a workout.
- "watch for bruising". "Be wary of knocking loose carotid plaques"!!!!!!

Ha! Lisa - I like eaves Troughs.. I may start using that!
Xtabay- the blasting does make it sound rather brutal !
Danusia- you are right on needs to be careful for sure. Sorry about your pain. Ouch, my IT bands are so tight and knotty.
Elpgal- I have always been intrigued by Rolfing but never tried.
Rachie - I think we should start incorporating them into regular conversation

After watching the video I had to laugh. Unless you know human anatomy and musculature you can do some damage to yourself. The way she was using the roller on her neck made me shiver!

I have had PT and massage therapy on my IT band which I manage using a foam roller to keep trigger points at bay. Last year I developed severe pain my my TMJ . Not only did I have severe trigger points in my TMJ, I had severe trigger points in my SCM, Traps, etc. - in other words most of my cheeks, neck, upper back, shoulder, biceps, triceps. It has taken almost a year to get rid of this pain via trigger point massage, but to maintain the results, it is better to stretch and elongate the muscles and finally build strength in all your muscles than using a foam roller to break up fascia.

UmmLila- that sounds good! Pilates is really the only place I have heard of fascia as well. I had an instructor who is truly a genius about the body, I adore her!
Meredith- yeah this is new to me . I am on th fence about scam or real ;-)
Style fan - it can hurt!

I just came back from a fascia-oriented Pilates class. Every now and then we do a session using foam rollers and it is amazing. It feels like you've had a fantastic massage when you're done.
